Good afternoon all!

I was quite surprised to find an email on my flicker account yesterday inviting me as a contributor. I also found out Getty Images are moving away from Flickr(??)

Has anyone else had such an invite? What are they like compared to other stock photography sites?

Thanks for any info!

Lots of us are contributors. Your cut is small 20-30% depending on the license but it time you could pic up some nice extra income. Getty is the biggest. Doesn't mean it's the best though.

Cheers! I've signed up as I may make a pound or two on images that are just lying around on my mac. I was taken back a little at the invite then thought it may be a mass exercise as they are leaving flickr ?? So the invite has been sent to me not so much that my images are suitable but that they are leaving and want the opportunity to invite as many as they can before the association finishes.

Not sure if I'm making sense here, been a long day! Basically have I been invited and by pure coincidence Getty are dropping association with Flickr? Or is there currently a mass invite drop to lots before the change is made?

The invite is part if their normal process. They have curators that scour Flickr. You've probably received one of the last invites that have been sent out!
 
I think the fact that you have quite a bit of product type stuff and kids would be quite attractive to them. I know a lot of folk with them, although I've never had an invite myself. Some make a decent bit each month and some make nothing.

Invite has been used in place of invitation since at least the mid 17th century. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just pointing out that it's not a new phenomena.


‘Bishop Cranmer . . . gives him an earnest invite to England.’ From ‘The alliance of divine offices’ by Hamon l’Estrange (1659).
The OED has this subsequent citation dated 1778 from Fanny Burney: ‘Every body Bowed, & accepted the invite but me . . . for I have no Notion of snapping at invites from the Great.’
 
I'm a victim of Muphry's law which states that any post criticising spelling or grammar will invariably contain a spelling or grammatical error!

Although I don't like using a capital letter just inside a bracket - it looks wrong!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have have a look into that, didn't want any exclusive deals unless they pay well! :-)
