weekly inView’s ( aka Scott) 52 thread 2022 week 45 Snappers Choice

I'm another for the portrait version. I can almost smell the coffee - the subtle lighting suits that laid back morning coffee theme.

I prefer the landscape. It's well set up. I would have preferred a little more light to the front but it's very good as it is.

I actually prefer the landscape shot, good setup I like how you've scattered the beans around the cup. Don't know how you would go about capturing the steam but if you have a vape maybe that would help?
I tried my wife's nebuliser but couldn't hide the pipework lol alas not a vape kinda guy :)

Many thanks, 1/4 CTO gel on a low power off camera flash into an umbrella worked well, tried to keep it as subtle as I could

Many thanks, I had thought about that being a tad too dark near the front of the image. food for thought.

This weeks theme left me a bit stumped for inspiration so only had the one idea and I must confess I wasn't really concentrating as I was watching cyclocross on TV at the same time. So here we are my "bottle"
Excuse the bad photoshop but couldn't really control the flash as well as I hoped so ended up taking some flash spill/reflection away. Simple set up but bowl was too small and didn't have enough ice either, gelled flash under the bowl and bare flash to light the bottle, would have loved to grid it to stop as much reflection but don't have one and still working on good ole Nikon CLS.

The contrast between the 2 colours gives it impact and the gelled flash idea works very well.

Colours working well.

I think that works really well. I love the colour you've made the ice, and the contrast with the cola. I think I would have liked a little more reflection on the bottle if anything, to make it a bit more 3D. Great idea. I am hoping to gel my flash for my bottle shot too, so wish me luck ha ha!

Many thanks, I tried a few gel colours and the colour I ended with worked well on the ice but would have preferred it to pierce the cola a tad more to show it colour.

haha here is me ‘shopping out the reflections too, in all seriousness if I could have caught the edge with some reflections I would have left it. Look forward to seeing your shot.
A creative take on the theme Scott.
Many thanks, wasn’t my most creative as had done a very similar shot a few years back with a can

Sounds very complicated to me but then I don't move far from landscapes. Love the background colour, it really pops.

When it comes to landscapes I’m well and truly out of my depth and have no idea, light I can handle and sport I can do, anything else …….. lost lol

Uninspired this week, with no idea what to shoot at all. Quick shot to keep 52 week challenge going but nothing to see here, sorry guys/gals hope that normal service will be resumed next week.

It'll do Scott, it'll do...

I do like your use of a shallow depth of field. Does it actually have that blue sheen or is that from your PP?

Thanks for the comment, I do shoot my lenses wide open ………….. a lot lol Blue added in post

Looks fine to me.. if any critique, perhaps a little too empty space on the left.
I have weeks like yours myself - motiviation and/or inspiration at a low ebb. As you say, normal service will be resumed. Don't beat yourself up about it ;)

Nice one - the blue works well.

Works well enough for me too, maybe as HelenC points out there is a little bit too much negative space, but that would be great for a magazine cover.

Pete

I usually find the Snapper's Choice weeks the hardest! At least I needed an ICM shot, so that gave me a focus.

I like the negative space and blueness.

Week 6, loads of alleys in Edinburgh so after shooting the velodrome for the past 2 days I droves through to Edinburgh to see if could get a shot I was happy with, too wet too cold and too caught up in another style of shooting saw me take a few shots but not particularly happy with any of them so I may do a reshoot if I can find any time.

Week 6 Alley

I think that this fits the bill Scott, the pop of red and the man standing at the end of the alley add interest and lead the viewer into the image. I like it.

The reflections off what looks like a wet floor and the red at the end add interest.
It fits the challenge well.

As soon as I saw this on the main thread I thought Edinburgh! Nice splash of red and person makes it!

I like that, the dark surround with the light and colour drawing us in. The wet pavement adds to it too.

Thanks for that, it’s amazing you have an idea of what you want and outside influences change what the pic becomes.

believe me it was definitely a wet ( read saturated) floor lol Many thanks.

Unmistakable Edinburgh old town, hard not to love it at times, the red splash was a bit of a fluke with thanks to a cafe and covid seating outside. Many thanks.
Lovely shot with the rainy reflections.
many thanks, you can rely on Scotland giving rainy reflections lol

many thanks , I thought it may have had too much contrast and shadow area, appreciate your thoughts.
That's the other end of the same close, I posted. :) Very nice with the wet pavement. I got it dry (until later)
The chances of that are astounding, I did have a wee laugh at the shots being back to back. Many thanks

I like the darkness and the wet reflections. It makes a good shot.. especially with the man at the top to add a point of focus.

So I left my technique to the last minute and "heavy" and "ICM" don't mix really, to be fair first and probably last ICM I will try but at least I tried lol. I was trying to keep it topical with heavy rain and high winds bringing down trees etc.

The real irony was that I could really find too many fresh trees that had been brought down with the latest storms and once again the weather was foul when I had the opportunity to get out with the camera so wasn't in the frame of mind to explore too much.

First 4 pics are my attempt at the ICM and the 5 shows the subject matter whilst the last was the only fresh storm victim I could find.

Currently not even sure which I will post as this weeks entry but leaning towards the 2nd.

For the Heavy theme then I would have gone with the last one. As you say combining that with ICM is not easy.

1st for me. Looks like you’ve “caught” the wind as well.
Caught 3 seasons when out today ( Scotland never really does summer anyway lol) but was windy, wet and cold. Thanks for input, should defo have this or 3rd as you can almost tell it’s a tree lol. My current choice is a shoehorn lol.

Thands for that, ICM and heavy was impossible for me lol #shoehorned

If you had to do ICM, I agree with Peter, #1 works best for me but I also agree with David, the last one is the best for "heavy"...

First one for me Scott, I think because you can clearly make out the subject but the ICM and subsequent lines add something a bit surreal to it all.

Last for me - no ICM but a great theme tick.

As you said not the best subject for ICM, last is best for theme, that must have gone down with a heavy thump.
