Hi

a friend deleted some files on her memory card, I have recovered lots of files some are ok and I can open the however some files come back "invalid jpeg marker", tried opening with CS5, windows image viewer paint, firefox and IE but still cant open them, its probably a corrupt file extension or something, any ideas

TIA

Dave

I take it you have tried adding .jpg to the end of the file name?

It sounds like the file header is either corrupted or has been deleted, but in either case it's bad news for your friend I'm afraid.

I think Mark is right. The recovery software wasn't able to recover all the data in those odd files and the file structure has probably become unreadable.

You could try re running the recovery operation with a different recovery software and se if that makes any difference, but I don't hold out much hope

Some recovery softwares better than others, if the files were just deleted then most should get them back ok, I'm wondering if the problem ones haven't been partially over-written or something?.

Are you sure they are jpegs not raw or some other files? some cameras have folder files and stuff as well. Just a thought.

This is a possibility, if a raw or Tiff has a jpeg extension it comes up as a inavalid jpeg extension, I have had it happen to me. Try changing the extension to the native camera raw one, you have nothing to lose.

Wayne and Paul, yes their just jpg as its from an old point and shoot camera, they are just deleted I got a lot back but a few are corrupt, I tried 2 different software's and both gave the same files are the same corrupt :(

Thanks for your help guys

They could just be old photos she had intentionally deleted previously and continued using the card. Are there any photos she remembers definetly being on the card that haven't been recovered?
Also try the file extensions for the video files if the camera can do video.

Hi Andy

My freind said they were photos of her husbands 60th birthday party in their garden I have looked at the photos recovered and none seem to be from that day, some of the recovered files were taken in 2007 onwards the party was last year
