Yes
My Intuos 3 got very temperamental so I have just got a 5 - I am finding it really difficult to work with (put it this way, I would not take on any editing work for anyone at the moment) The feel is very scratchy instead of smooth and the pressure sensitivity is abysmal/absent.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the circle that appears around the tip every time it goes near the page and when in PS how to stop it bringing up the brushes (when I am trying to use a brush) every time I rest my hand on the tablet to work

I've got a 4, but never had anything like this, I assume its some settings somewhere? Scrathyness could be the tip on the pen...maybe you could try a softer one?

What about tablet options? anything in there, I have the old version so no help.

Apparently the scratchiness is a "feature", once I get the rest of it sorted out I might put one of those phone/tablet covers over it if I cannot get used to it. I have looked in tablet, mouse, pointer etc options but no luck so far.

On top of that the laptop has crashed a couple of times and when it restarts it is the driver that is missing.

I really want to be able to stop the circle around the tip whenever I put it to the tablet and to stop it bringing up a menu at the least excuse = ie when moving it

NOT impressed so far

If you got on mail order do you still have time to send back, and maybe look at other models (4 maybe?)

Try downloading the driver again and re-installing. I did that for my 4 which was not behaving properly and as soon as I re-installed it was, and still is spot on.

Just picked up an Intuos 5 M Touch and was annoyed by the circle in Windows.

Try this in Windows:

Start Menu>Run>type "gpedit.msc"

Then click on the tree section on the left: Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates >
> Windows Components > Tablet PC > Cursors > TurnOffPenFeedback ... double click, set "Enabled", then OK

Close everything and then restart your system.

If that doesn't do the trick, you could try this reg change, but you will have to be comfortable with running this type of thing. I can confirm it does work though.

Regarding the scratchiness, is it a touch or non-touch model? Either way, you could use a sheet of a4 paper on the tablet (disable touch controls if you have a touch model) to provide a less scratchy surface. Don't like the feeling of paper......? try a sheet of OHP material.

The brush panel popping up; I think 2 finger tap brings up the brush dialogue box, so you could either disable touch completely or just this option (or change it to something more useful to you).

Hope that sorts is for you,

Chris.

Thanks Chris, I will try that.

I am surprised how long it is taking to get used to it seeing as I used them for years, but actually maned some editing today. Some of the problem is that the drivers keep having to be installed and since installing I keep getting a "blue screen" which every time it comes up they have to be reinstalled yet again as it has a very clunky feel without it

I do have a touch, disabled, and wireless but that is not perfect so is plugged in at present till the rest sorted out

They may be out of date. Download the current ones.

I am female - I have read the manual :)

Yes, have tried various options and gradually getting along with it. I have got rid of the scratchiness but putting one of those plastic http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=463304&goto=nextoldestfilms over it that you can put on tablets, works well. This will also have the benefit of keeping some of the dust out of it of which we have quite a bit with an open fire in the room I work in

Drivers now have most recent on shortcut so I can reinstall at need without hunting for it

Circling thing, got rid of the worst of it (Control Panel / Pen and Touch / Pen options - press and hold - settings - untick) now just an echo of it as I lift the pen but that I think I can live with for now. Managed to lose right click in that panel earlier but think I now have it sorted so I can now live with it

It sounds like you're getting there Kerioak. Well done for persevering, I'm sure it's educational if nothing else.

Short of digging in the registry, you may not be able to further remove the echo/circle. With regards to the drivers... is the blue screen you see the 'Blue Screen Of Death'? If so, does the screen provide any specifics on the crash?

If you have access to another computer or laptop which uses the same operating system as the computer you are having problems with, try installing the Intuos 5 on that. All of the issues you are having could be a hardware problem or due to an accumulation of incompatibilities. Unfortunately, the latter may necessitate a format and re-installation of your operating system. Best to try how it works on another computer, if possible.

Good idea with the tablet screen protector. Self adhesive sheet ftw! Though, I really like the surface of the Intuos 5... it's all preference I guess.

Chris.

id be inclined to suggest to make sure all system chipset drivers (or if you have an add in USB card the drivers for that) are up to date.

try a different USB socket (if plugged into the rear of the computer try the ones on the front) to rule out a socket hardware fault.

try a different USB cable. also if you have any USB hub, remove it from the equation and retry.

try the tablet on another computer to rule out a fault with the tablet.

i wouldnt really think a reformat will resolve it. normally a BSOD is the result of hardware and/or driver issues. but it will depend on what the BSOD actually says.

Thanks Chris and Neil for your support, it is appreciated

Yes, Blue screen of death - despair

It does say something, next time I will write it down, as it does not mean anything to me I don't take much notice.

I am using Win 7 Home professional on a Dell xps laptop. I have tried different USB sockets and wireless but not different cables.

So far today I have installed the driver times, no blue screens but have had to go out a couple of times and although I have pawsense installed I still turn it off when I go out so the cat cannot play with it. Each time I turn it on plus one extra.

When the tablet is working it works well, I now know when it is not working well that the drivers have gone again. I have redownloaded them - again.

I am not happy about installing anything else, playing with registry until I have the driver problem sorted. I might have to do a reformat or contact Dell to check machine out as still under warrenty.

I am looking to see if I can find a blue screen report anywhere

I just found this:
Windows
Problem: Video hardware error
Files that help describe the problem:
WD-20120928-1640.dmp
sysdata.xml
WERInternalMetadata.xml
View a temporary copy of these files
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.

One of which looks quite old and neither of which I can find on machine

If you're getting blue screen, something driverrelated at a low level is wrong.

Doesn't your Dell setup offer you a system repair? Or if you have a systemdisc, use that to reinstall motherboard drivers...

Hi Jan
Looks like you might be correct. I have been in touch with Dell, after spending ages on their site and their hardware section says it was a McAfee remnants problem from when I uninstalled it some time ago when it expired. They transferred me to the software dept who want nearly £70 to help but I politely explained that was a tad expensive and I would try to work it out myself first so they pointed me in the direction of revo uninstall

Have you tried restoring your system back before the problems started?

Have you tried sanding the tip of the pen to make it smooth?

(only use this method as a last resort!)

Hi Tom, no as it is the tablet surface that is rough, apparently a desireable fearture for most but I am now happy with that aspect with the plastic "sheet" over it.

Am hoping that reformat will mean the driver stays put as that was part of my problem as well

I was jesting Christine...... I feel your pain though!
