I stumbled upon this group on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/filmphotographer/

and I thought it might be of use as a sticky here at F&C? We have very little in the way of help for people who are wanting to shoot film for the first time (or for the first time in a long time), and whilst some of the content, such as where to buy film, is aimed at shooters in the US, we can include some links in the sticky to threads where we have answered those sorts of questions in the past?

If you click on F&C, you just get a few stickies about a photo challenge, a Holga getting lost (and found) in the mail and a few stickies on development

Start a thread, put the information in there, and let people contribute - same way as Darrens "How to develop your first B&W film." thread began. Why should we drive traffic over to Flickr (or anywhere else, for that matter - i've nothing against Flickr per-se - I use it myself). By all means include links to groups where additional information can be found, but why not turn F&C into a resource itself ??

If it's any use, i wrote a slideshow for my uni photography society on developing film and making prints, ill stick a download link up if anyone is interested?

Essentially we'd need to duplicate extensively written material again, all just so we don't drive traffic to another place? In lieu of as yet unwritten threads, is it so bad to point to other resources? A source like that is far more valuable information than the limited replies that we can give for people who are beginners and want to delve into film photography, and is structured in a much better way for that purpose. Not that we can't emulate it at TP... it's just that we'd need all the content written.

It may seem completely obvious to us, but I'm sure there's a few people every month who accidentally end up at F&C and are intrigued but are completely lost as to the basics of film photography...
