Hi all... name's Mike, I'm in the S.E. of England, and I'm at the most amateur end of amateur photography!! Consider me one small step up from someone who knows nothing whatsoever!
My main hobbies are watch and knife collecting, but photographing these has got me interested in improving my photography skills - not just for watch pictures, but generally. I'd like to extend my capabilities to cover all sorts of scenes.
For the last two or three years I've relied on a little Nikon Coolpix S1 super-compact, which I've been very happy with, if rather frustrated by the lack of manual control.
I'm now awaiting my new purchase - a Canon PowerShot G9. From the research I've done, it seems like a good compromise between performance, flexibility and ease of use.
Here are a couple of pictures I've taken in the past year or two - please bear with me, I'm sure you fellas will think these are basic in the extreme, but for me they represented significant achievement
These were all taken with the Coolpix S1, using a home-made light tent fashioned from cardboard and tracing paper!
