Hi Talkphotography,

I'm new here, but have spent a couple of days looking at some of the photographs posted on here with intense jealousy.
Have had a Dslr for a couple of years, but have not been using it to its potential i feel.
I have a 400d, and have just got myself a mac with lightroom, so i hope to learn some photoshop techniques for pulling the most out of my photos.
I am primarily interested in travel photography, as most of my life is spent on the road, but i am fascinated with some of the macro work i have seen on here, and also some of the nature photography.
The wildlife stuff blows me away, but i would imagine that the extent of my 80-200 lens is probably not sufficient.
I am currently weighing up the options of buying a 50mm f1.4, as advised by a friend. I am heading to Jamaica for a couple of weeks after the weekend, and would love to get some good reportage style shots.

Hi Matty and welcome to TP

You've come to the right place to learn how to get the best from your kit. The 50/1.4 is a great lens and you can get really creative with it due to the shallow dof you can get. Don't dismiss the 50/1.8 though as a cheaper alternative, sharp as hell and with a real following
