I'm looking for some interesting locations to shoot in and around the Essex/london area.

I'm after some abandoned buildings, churches, places that are creepy but beautiful.
I'm planning on doing some landscape, and fashion shoots with models.

Please please please let me know of any places !!
thanks !

theres a ruined church at Arlesford near Colchester which has a graveyard still in use.

Got some good shots there.

Haha I was going to suggest Alresford church myself, and if you are really brave it would make an excellent location at night with some lighting.
Some shots on flickr Alresford Church Essex

Alresford church looks quite cool, i have a caravan in Mersea so I could probably get there to shoot, thank you !

Yea I thought about Hadleigh Castle may have to have a wander up there too.

There's a knackered Jetty with a steel structure/building at the end of it if you walk the "sea wall" from the Lobster Smack on Canvey towards London - It's a fair way along, and you'll definitely need wellies.
Last time we walked along there, acess was relatively unhindered once you'd got over a fence, but it was a while ago now...

Might have a picture of it luring on one of the drives at home, if I find it I'll post it.....

okay thank you :)

A bit of a thread hijack, but I'm also looking for locations that I can get to via public transport or/and foot....not soo much of the creepy stuff though!

Alright, theres an area in Rainham, called ferry lane industrial estate... go right to the bottomof that and there is a nature reserve right on the Thames! next the a huge Tilda Rice factory... There are some old breaking up concrete barges sat on the Thames banks right there, and they make for some awesome photos.

Some good industrial type pics can be taken there too!

well worth a butchers in my opionion.

There is also a sculpture of a Diver there situated in the water and as the tide comes in, goes out... more or less of the diver is exposed, tis also pretty cool :)

OH leaky5, you're from the posh bit, I like to describe myself as being on the outskirts of Fobbing, now there's a place to go for some fine old buildings.

Colchester zoo

Ditto for Rainham. Here's a shot of the aforementioned barges. The place stinks. Gross. Watch out for needles. Lots of deep mud so take care. Massive landfill nearby too. What a hole. Good photo location though. Loads of other cool spots around there.

Coalhouse Fort in Tilbury. The Fort itself is usually closed, although they have the odd open day. But there are a few derelict look out posts dotted around it. If you follow the footpath that leads away from the fort entrance to the Thames, there is a derelict look out tower on the waters edge as well the remains of a jetty.

For a small, old isolated church try St Mary The Virgin Church in Little Burstead between Billericay and Basildon - on a hillside overlooking the Thames Estuary region of Essex. For something more spectacular, try Holy Trinity in Long Melford near Sudbury (just over the border in Suffolk).

OI, I'm from Basildon, and it has a lot of churches:D

Im also from Baz, but the more refined Steeple View area :D.

A really nice church, is St Nicholas. Its on the top of a hill and has a great graveyard with lots of lichen covered spooky graves. The church itself is very photogenic and its a good place for an hour or so's shoot.

Then when night falls, get yerself down to Baz Vegas to shoot the local wildlife - the lesser clothed chavette, the diamond geezer (usually only seen inside a pimped Citroen Saxo or Ford Focus) and the exotic ageing Grannies (AKA muttondresedaslamb) that can be found lurching betwixt the nightclubs and the Chinese buffet. Its a veritable cornucopia of photographic opportunity....

Hey! As ive recently been doing the same A-Level, my best advice is to walk, ALOT! I spent about 7 days walking (one day a week) it took aged, but I wondered across london for some good pics. That was for an "architectural photography" project. It really did work, but it was quite hard, walking about with a 35mm and a medium format camera. Plan the walks though! Say that your going to look in specific areas and have a plan, or you end up spending hours walking a few hundread metres!

As for places, hmm, I would suggest firstly, the thames! There are really good spots from Tower Bridge all the way up to the Dome, I am not too good with that bit of london though, so I don't know exactly where! A good way to see it all is by taking a boat ride actually, but you would need a big zoom lens!

Also, surprisingly, Hampstead in N London is really good. There are 2 churches that are almost in ruin (one being done up, and the builders let me into the grounds/dorway to photograph it!) There are also alot of other buildings hidden around the small lanes that need repair and look quite good too, but again Walking is required lol!

Good luck with the project, I found it hard but really fun!

The church hollow at Purfleetis still there, I live local and thought I'd go and suss it out to see if it was still there.
I found the site which is in between the new estate and the cliffsides but there is a huge fence the whole way around it. I could just about see the old school house from the fence and there are building plans from january 2011 on the fence and proposals to demolish!
Such a shame as it's quite an interesting little piece of history!
I may go back next week and try to find a way in! ;)
for anyone who wishes to know where this is, you have to go into old purfleet along tank hill road to the mini rounderbout at church hollow.
As you turn into this road you will see old cottages on each side and then theres a turning on your left, go a few feet past this and you'll notice the big metal fences on your left, it is behind these. Just before the road bears right!

Thanks xxrnhxx,

I'm not too far I might take a wonder up there soon
