Ok, so last night binned sky as was £53.50 a month
Line rental with BT is £15 or so a month
Interweb was AOL now talk talk is £17 or so a month..

so £85 give or take.

Seriously considering something like BT Infinity as fibreoptic deal totally unlimited with TV etc is something like £25 a month + £16 rental.

Also considering something like google chromeplay thingy to turn TV into a smart TV. Basically wuill be left with no way to record TV - but seems most things are now "On Demand"

thoughts etc appreciated......... I understand connectivity etc varies location to location but checked online and all is good here....

I am sure there are other options......

Necessity is Interweb (faster the better) as sometimes WFH. Cureently get about 14 Meg DL and 1-2 Meg upload.
Land line would be good but not the deal breaker.
Must be a reputable co and thinking better deal if all eggs in one basket.
 
Can you get Virgin where you are?

I get TV, phone and unlimited broadband for just £36 a month
 
virgin media also for me although i just have free view as most virgin channels are pap.

50mb and phone for £28
 
don't get VM here. B?ack end of deepest darkest Norfolk. thankful we have tarmac on the roads
 
What about a freeview HD box. That can record etc as well.
 
I'll be changing tomorrow. Just had a notification from Sky that they are increasing my bill from £38 to £62.
Virgin looks like the preferred option with unlimited broadband at 120MB in our area, for about £39 (TV, phone and broadband)

Freesat?

If you already have a dish, just buy a Humax hard drive box (or similar) 500gb - 1 TB record 300+ hrs. No fees. You can connect to broadband & catch up services. You can watch a recorded prog while recording another. Connect to surround sound etc.....

Infinity is good and the TV package is worthwhile for the low cost - make sure you pop onto their offer site as they normally do some good discounts.

Netflix is an option they're doing as well - or you can just do your own.
 
if you keep your sky still set up that will give you lots of free channels, sky+ will not work, then if you do choose Infinity you can still out of contract with sky have BT Sport going through your sky box.. that is what we do, then extra tv is provided by Now TV, Netflix and Prime..
 
Have you contacted sky to say you are leaving?
My son told them he was going to BT, and they matched the BT deal, and gave him £100 credit as well.

It might be worth checking before you buy either as we used to have a freeview box but moved house 100m up the road and couldn't get a signal so had to buy a freesat box and get a dish. We lost a couple of stations (Dave being one) but as already said, the Humax range seem pretty good, but get a big HD as ours is almost always close to full..

There are a few less/different channels on freesat, but you can also access most of the free sky channels too, if you wanted.

Very true. We did switch back from freeview and freesat to Sky. I liked the old Topfield boxes as well, and the humax wasn't bad either. But what I do like about sky is how downloading of ondemand tv is included. When on slow broadband like us it makes all,the difference.

its just reheated twaddle virgin and sky just turn your TV into a microwave for people to sit in front of day and night and pay for the privalage and even +1 and +2 if you missed the first play of said twaddle because folk were in the kitchen or dunny.

So you mean all TV is twaddle?
 
Maybe time to think about a new TV as most Smart ones plug into your router and have access to all of the on-demand services without any other box. Some can also have an external hard drive plugged in for recording, and Toshiba do one that is formatted for this purpose http://www.toshiba.co.uk/hard-drives/portable/store-alu-tv-kit/ I use Chromecast to ping BT Sport from my tablet or phone onto the TV, and a Now TV box that isn't really worth the £7 a month for the few Sky stations that you get. Chromecast gives you regular deals for Now TV incuding 3 months free which I'm just about to sign up to today, plus 1 free movie. You can stop the Now TV payment anytime as it isn't a contract.
 
I went with Amazon Fire TV with Prime. £7 per month for films and shows. Plus the box gives me Internet TV with Android apps for: iPlayer, Flikr, Picasa, YouTube, smartphone screen mirroring, Plex streaming and lots more.

I like the idea - 55" curved Samsung did you say? I shall try to get it past she who controls the purse strings, but there are better odds of Lorn Lucan dressed as Hiawathwa riding Shergar to a record win in next years National.

Seriously, TV - Panasonic is about 8 yrs old and still works fine.. Not fussed about another box to turn it into a freeview box (Cost £800 then - makes me cry when I see what I can get for £800 now!)

Up and running within 1 hour., thanks to the engineer.
144mbs is quite a change from Sky's 7 or 8 at peak times. Upload is 7 mbs.

Only one niggle is no Sky Atlantic on the TV, but I can stream that when I want to.

£39 for broadband at 100mbs, unlimited, all phone calls and TV.

Why is upload so slow at only 7mb/s compared to 20mb/s upload on normal fttc (80/20) broadband?
 
Upload used to be under 1mbs. I thought 7 or 8 was pretty good :)
I have no idea, but I'm hooked up to 2G as I have an old laptop: I can't use the 5G wifi.
