I keep getting an onscreen message saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working". The screen goes blank then Explorer comes back on. Has anyone got a remedy for this.

Cheers Keith

Yeh, use Firefox or Chrome:D

^this.

IE is crap at the best of times.

Make sure you are using the latest version of IE.

I currently have IE 11 Which I think is the latest version. The addons that were installed have all been either deleted or disabled, I have also done a IE reset but the problem is still there. Oddly though it seems to be at it's worst on this site for some reason.

Ditch IE and go with Firefox.

You might spend all day diagnosing the fault in IE... spend 2 mins installing FF.

Must have IE Tab installed ;)

It is somewhat more bloated than it used to be but I find stability to be fine and a far better browser than IE. Chrome I can't stand.

each to their own. I'd recommend the OP tries FF and makes their own judgement.

Currently IE is faster loading and browsing than Chrome for me. Using windows 7.

Neil, getting too bored of it now.. I used to get into debate about browsers about 10 years ago... moved way beyond that now ;)

Like I said, it is up to the OP to decide. I merely suggested an alternative based on my own personal experience. Your personal experience is different so by all means recommend your solution to the OP and we can let them decide.

Bear in mind other factors for stability such as condition of the users machine, other software / plugins / drivers installed including unknowns such as malware/viruses, not to mention scripts installed on web sites. ALL of which can have an impact on the stability of ANY software. IE/FF/Chrome/Nutscrape/etc. etc. etc included.

Keith. Up to you what you do. We can all merely suggest but the decision lies with you...

I'm off to hatch a plot to reverse the I and the E.

whatever dude, just saying.

IE has come way beyond the god awfulness of IE6 and perhaps 7. 8 was better, 9 was good, 10 and 11 have been excellent.

FF however has gone the other way, like i say since approx v14. especially with the flash plugins which are vile.

also assuming you run a good AV/malware and firewall.

Fair enough :). Agreed the flash plugins are just outright irritating. Machine is fully protected and NO I'm not getting into an AV/FW/Anti-malware debate :D hehe.

Hi

Everyone will be different but I always had these issues with IE & Firefox along with both being very slow loading websites, even though I am on a High Speed fibre connection.

In my case I went over to Chrome and never had a problem since.

The other good thing with Chrome is that it's also available on Android & iOS so what you do on one device is automatically done on all of them.

It does take a bit of getting used to but is very good once you learn how to use it properly.

'nuff said.

IE always lags behind. It's only since V10 I think, that it could pass the Acid 3 test.

Looking forward, IE will be a pig when HTML5 use starts to ramp up.

FF never crashed here. What addons you got installed Neil?

I, a mozilla volunteer, am currently using Chrome. As much as I love Mozilla, it's mission and open source, Chrome seems to just work no matter what I throw at it.

The best browser for you is the browser that works best for you. Don't exhaust Opera as an option, too :)

Firefox and Chrome have the edge for modern features. Speed is a variable though. Each browser is built using a different specification, and the specification best suited for your machine will often times be the best for your machine, since they are simply made to work together.

That's why Mac has a software advantage. Macs are all the same, so it's easier for developers to build using the perfect build specifications ;)

You should certainly just try all the browsers. Here's another option, too. http://www.palemoon.org/
It looks old fashioned, but it's a brilliantly reliable browser. They cut back on unneeded alterations which were added for features that nobody uses, with the benefit of plain and simple performance + reliability. There's nothing fancy about it, it just works.

No idea about Firefox, haven't used it in years because I never liked it (personal taste more than anything else). But this is Maxthon on the same test. Although not sure how good that test actually is, for a start it says I'm using Windows XP which I'm not (Windows 7) so it's at least not reading some of the metadata correctly.

Oh dear what have I started. I didn't know there were so many browsers.

Cheers Keith

Just had a wee try of that Maxathon.

Did not retain my hotmail passwords.

Did not retain my preferred startup tabs.

Very slow to open after the icon clicked.

Finally, up came a warning from my AV about a redirect.

So another one bites the dust and IE will stay for now!
