I've just done a clean installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and something is messing up Internet Explorer 10 and Chrome 33 at the same time.

If I go to Tools>Safety>InPrivate Browsing, IE10 opens with InPrivate Browsing switched on - which is what it should do.

If however I right-click the IE10 icon on the taskbar and choose Start InPrivate Browsing, IE10 does not open - all that happens is an icon flashes up on the taskbar and disappears again instantly (it's so fast it never becomes fully solid - as can be seen below). The icon is exactly the same as the one called 'View.ico' here link. The problem also occurs if I right-click on the IE taskbar icon and choose Open new tab (or anything else in the Tasks and Frequent groups).

Precisely the same thing happens with Chrome's Incognito mode - i.e. right-clicking the Chrome taskbar icon and choosing New incognito window does nothing except cause the same icon to appear and disappear instantly. Right-clicking and choosing New window (or anything else in the Tasks and Most visited groups) also produces the error.

Since exactly the same thing is happening to both IE, Chrome I'm wondering if this is caused by a fault in Windows 7's jump lists. Any ideas folks?

EDIT: I've just realised that the fault is also producing the same effect in Windows Explorer's taskbar icon - to anything in the Most visited group.
