It seems a shame that Talk Photography a great site in general but on the OOF/General Discussion forums there is what seems to me quite a bit of what could be called internet bullying. Mainly aimed at one member in particular for whatever reason they see fit.

What is even sadder that the moderators or staff of the forum allow and join in some of these uncalled for or snide comments to a certain member, maybe because of what a daily paper article said or maybe just because their different. Fine to have a debate over something, it's another thing when persoanal attacks are coming from members and staff.

A lot of the offensive members and some so called well respected members posting such snide comments does not in my opinion help the forum in any way. It only serves to make the lurkers or the more shy members from posting at all.
When one particular member makes a post on whatever subject whether it was first seen in a newspaper/tv or elsewhere the daggers come out. At least the guy is making a contribution to the TP forums.

Moderators and staff should be ashamed of themselves allowing such behaviour on TP, instead what do we find? mods joining in slating a member because he had the gall to post something printed in the Daily Mail. Also we find some members who rarely post anything jumping on the bandwagon too.

A example from a post from a member "Oh dear. have you ever thought of committing suicide" putting a smiley after the post or claiming it is tongue in cheek comment makes no difference, it is poor taste.

When I joined TP in 2007 I thought it was a pretty good forum, I learnt a lot, maybe it is just the way of this new generation I don't know but TP is not the friendly place it used to be.

Really - I can't believe anyone would be so crass as to make such a remark!

Yep, posted in another thread in this OOF forum

tbf if you post things that open you up to ridicule it's not really bullying is it.

Well if you feel the need to ridicule someone then it is a form of bullying, a decent person would probably just shake their head and mutter to themself, not post a snide remark on a forum for all to see and encourage others to jump on the bandwagon.

Wow! internet at it's finest.
yes I was the one who made the remark, what has it got to do with you?

It's a stupid remark to make, affects everyone with any common sense!

it was a jest at Steve's comment that he would continue his tirade against a pigeon feeder despite the fact that he had been advised that no-one could do anything for him under the current laws.
I thought if that is the position he finds himself then suicide must be an option.

I'm terribly sorry if you saw it as anything more.

if someone says something dumb to me I'm going to respond in a certain way. it's no different on here. if you can't take having the p*** taken out of you when you arse up the. you shouldn't post. it's not malicious

Sorry OP but if we are talking about the same person then please look at some of his posts. Are you saying we just agree with him? Whilst ignoring him may be an option, perhaps some feel they need to respond in kind. I do not feel he is being bullied.

Frank

I dip in and out of OOF and a lot of posts in here are IMO, posted to cause/create debate. If we all agreed, no debate would exist!

You reference to the Daily Mail / Frankie and Benny's post I presume? I read that thread as being a healthy debate about two opposing views on the given topic. In fact, I even contributed to this (I don't usually in OOF) and I didn't read any of it as bullying or intimidation. The mod you mention was actually debating on behalf of customer service and whilst it was an opposing view to Steve's that doesn't make it bullying. They were both putting their points of view across as best they could and I don't see that either, whilst disagreeing, were crossing the line.

Discus.

Personally I say close OOF it's a throughly depressing section of the forum these days, it somewhat annoys/frustrates me that a completely asinine thread in OOF will regularly get 40+ responses within hours of being started! yet on a forum dedicated to photography there are literally thousands of photo threads with less than 5 responses to be that is just criminal...so I say again close the damned section and force people out to either find a new den of iniquity to continue debates or god forbid actually contribute to the photography related aspects of the forum

:agree: After all at the end of the day,it is an photographer forum

its just text on a computer screen... if people actually seperated there computer screen from real life they wouldnt get so upset.

for example.. I am a luverly person in 3d :)

Three options
1 Don't look at OOF section
2 Use the "ignore" for the "special" members of the forum
3 Report the post
After being on here since 2007 you must have some idea how OOF works

Jesus H Christ. I've read some lily livered, leftie, pinko, touchy feely pish on here before but this takes the biscuit. Some folk just need to man up a bit FFS. Close OOF?? get real. If you don't like the programme then change the channel.

"CYBER BULLYING on TP" That's worthy of a headline in the Daily Mail in it's own right. Laughable.

If someone makes a deliberate attempt to incite others its not bullying to reply in a similar fashion
I have made one or two comments to this person, should add nothing I wouldn't say to his face.

Soon tired of his rubbish and is now ignored, cyber bullies are easily avoided with the off switch

The answer to that Matt, is simply don't bother to look at it. A lot of us enjoy it, closing it won't make a jot of difference to the other forums
people just won't visit the site at all, and if you check a lot those active in here do also post in photo sections
both pictures and commenting on them for others
A lot of us enjoy the banter etc. in here, a lot of comments are between friends who are joking.

I don't normally like Brash
's posts. But when I do
I like this one.

What fun this is. I commend @frank for speaking up for me.

I start threads and give my views in others. Some of our self appointed keyboard people don't like what I say or my views. Fine. Some have made personal attacks as to me when faced with a reasonable question or comment they go off on one. I just see that as someone who's lost their debate. I really don't care. To me it's their behaviour that is, and will be the problem.

Got to say Steve, I have never yet seen you retaliate to any of the comments aimed at you, well done that man (y)

Closing Oof.....Will not make any difference to any other sections TP.....I belong to lots of other forums and their Oof is exactly the same.....it is like an online pub.....you turn up you, converse or rant (the choice is yours) and then get on with your life......personally speaking I don't approve of malicious remarks against any member but that should not preempt closure of the Oof section.....like others say if someone dislikes the topic.....they can press the back button and view another topic......debate is healthy is any community

gotta agree with this

I just see that as someone who's lost their debate. I really don't care. To me it's their behaviour that is, and will be the problem.

thing is Steve I have ready a few of your threads and even tried to participate in a couple of them but you seem to (and obviously) like and respond to the peeps that agree with your views and ignore those that don't.

so you don't really debate anything

To the OP.

Have you reported any of the posts you find offensive?

I saw some posts on that thread and reported one, which was later removed. Thats what the report button is for, you flag something you feel is inappropriate and then it's a Mods decision to the outcome, which I personally feel they handle well all of the time.

We can have fun, there's some real (sometimes obvious) humour on that thread, but also there's advice on how to approach the situation that ST4 found upset him, plus the alternate view that perhaps it's something that others wouldn't find offensive or even pleasant.

That's what society is for, the discussion and opinions of one peers (or others in society) actual forms our opinions and so these discussions have merit. Simple digs, offensive remarks have no place in such discussions. Comments meant as humour might sometimes not come across as you mean when written, missing perhaps the delivery and it's too easy to quickly write something and move on. Sometimes it's good to stop, look at what you've written and evaluate.

Yes he does

Sorry is this the 5 minute argument or the full half hour... :D

I beg to differ. Sorry.

But this threads really about the tirade of personal abuse I seem to get. It's playground silliness really. I won't sink to it.

We got a hat trick! 'Pinko'! 'Lefty'! 'PC'!

Well played sir! The match ball is yours :)

Disappointed we missed the double though.....we got FFS and Man Up but didn't quite get to "grow a pair" *

* as an aside, one of my offspring on first hearing this phrase, thought it was "grow a pear". They were struggling with the concept of a fruit based insult.
