Yes
I really am puzzled by my pc.

I was away working this week again and when I came home my pc's wireless connection had died.

I powercycled my router and reconnected , everything ok.

However although i can access 99% of the web , my two most common used site's won't load. The browser (both opera and IE7) just does nothing. Even MSN can't see the msn server.... :S

Here is a bit of basic prodding I did:

www.hotmail.com and www.driftworks.com are the offending sites I cannot access.

Now I can access the bbc website despite what it said on the ping and trace.

I know the websites are online as I can view them through my mobile....

I use openDNS , i've power cycled my pc and my router , cleared all cookies and temp files etc.

Any ideas? :bonk::bonk::bonk:

If you're using a DHCP server (which you probably are) all of the settings are controlled by your router, so you need to check what is set up there - if you've power cycled it there may be some strange default settings.

My son had a similar problem last week, he ended up doing a "roll back" to a couple of days previously and everything was fine.

HTH

Steve

Thanks I thought as much.

b****r , the router belongs to my housemate who is away at the moment , I won't be able to access the router pages. :(

Not using Zoine Alarm by any chance?

Does an IPCONFIG /ALL show your DNS servers to be the same address as the router?
If not your DNS may have been 'hijacked' by some spyware or other naughty application.

Seems right , doesn't it?

Don't use zone alarm

Don't claim to be a guru but a lookup on those dns server numbers goes to somewhere in america. As a moderator here i can see the IP you are posting from and your isp's dns servers (as listed on the support page) are completely different addresses.

I use opendns ;reason being when its set to obtain DNS automatically the connection flakes out every 4 minutes or so.

You need to check the firmware version on your router, this may well fix the 4 minute issue, and then use the router IP Address as the DNS entries. Failing that, set the router to be your DNS server, then get on to the router configuration, and find out what it's DNS servers are, then you can use them on your PC.

Yeah I use OpenDNS too. I dont think the issue here is your DNS servers, as you can't access the IP's directly.

I'm thinking router or ISP.

Just to let you all know I dont have a clue what the heck you are all talking about, but.....best of luck! :cuckoo:

As your DNS is being resolved it's clearly not that which is causing your problem. I would suspect that there is a peering issue between you (your ISP) and the sites you wish to visit.

Unfortunately, other that complaining to them, there's not a great deal you can do in such situations.

If you ever think you have DNS issues try using "nslookup" from a command prompt to check DNS from an alternative server.
