Just booked to go to Blackpool for the weekend 14th Sept for the fireworks, I've heard this year that they're not on North Pier but on the Tower Headland, is that the bit with the comedy carpet underneath the tower? If so, where would people recommend the best vantage point for photography would be, I'm thinking maybe out on North Pier - what do you think?
 
There has been talk that they maybe closing the piers to the public this year during the display but i will have to find out for my own benifit as soon as i find out for sure i shall let you know but if they are open then i will be using the north pier
 
According to what ive been told the piers will be open and the best view point will be from the central pier looking towards north pier as the fireworks trajectory takes them between the two. According to the tide tables by the time the show starts the tide should be in so the reflections should be fantastic. if anything changes i will post it tracey.
 
look forward to this year even more now but remember a heavy steady tripod will be needed as those pier floors wobble a lot with a lot of people walking about.

Perhaps right on the end of the piers will give a chance to have the tower in the shot.

Another angle to look at is that the illuminated trams are normally kept together at North Pier during the displays so possibly chance to get those with the fireworks over the top.

Lucky for me living in manchester not far to go every week.
 
Anyone thinking of organising a meet for one or two nights ?

Can anyone suggest how much I'm going to need to save up to increase my lens collection, I really don't know what I should be looking for. Use my 55-250 for sport and had no problems with that, enjoy landscape and wildlife photography and now for the fireworks. My last investment was my 'nifty fifty' which i'm liking for portraits.

Any suggestions please, I AM saving up!!

Iwould have thought the lenses you have would be more than enough for fireworks and most other situations. Dont spend money on things you dont need to.
 
Sorry, just got the impression from towershot's 'out of that lot' comment that I was lacking something, maybe I misinterpreted it.

I took these ones last year at a local rugby club's fireworks display:

I used my 55-250 and a tripod, am I getting there or am I miles off?

No harm meant Tracey ,any lens that gets good shots is a good lens.
I advocate what the others say,you have a good coverage with the lenses you have.
Unless you feel there is a gap you need to fill,a large macro lens for example,I would not go out and buy anything soon.
You will know when you want to upgrade or buy a different lens.

Sorry if you thought I was criticizing ,:shake: definitely not.:thumbs:
 
Thanks Rick, misunderstanding cleared up :thumbs: and thanks everyone else for the positive comments. In honesty there weren't any buildings to feature in these shots as they were taken over a rugby pitch lol. Will certainly take the advice onboard for Blackpool though, hopefully getting the tower and other illuminations in, thanks for the advice.
 
Ooops I meant to say I'd go for the 18-55 so you can get the wider view :bonk::bonk:! I'd try not to get too close. The shot above was taken with a 10-20 from about 600 metres.

Even if it's 20 or so quid dearer than online I would sooner go to a shop,but if they ask for you to sign owt before you see it I would say no!

I emailed the tourism people in Blackpool and am told the fireworks are still being launched from North Pier this year, so think I'm gonna position myself on the lower prom down the north end as our hotel is down that end too. They suggested best viewing area as the tower headland but I reckon it's gonna be packed around there.
