Hi Guys,

My dad has asked me to help him take some interior shots of a house hes been doing up. I think ive got most of the equipment and have been reading up on tips.

My current gear is:

Canon 7D
Canon 580ex ii
Canon 70-200L IS f4
Canon 50mm f1.4
Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Manfrotto Tripod

I think all that should cover me, but I was thinking of hiring a wide angle lens as ive got half price hire at lensesforhire.co.uk. Is this worth while, if so which lens?

So in short anyone got any good tips and pointers for shooting interior photographs?

Matt

I think it might be worth looking at a TS-E17. You can utilise the shift horizontally to get wide shots to stitch or shift vertically to adjust any convergance to get the best "look" to the shots. The less intuitive tilt doesn't have to come into play.

I think you will need a wider lens, something at least 12mm wide. A couple of off camera strobes would also be a lot of help if you haven't got them already.

Some ideas...

The 10-22 is a great lens but you might be better off stitching together several less wide shots. Shoot them in portrait mode and overlap at least 1/3. The 10-22 at the wide end can make spaces look very big - and weird.

Try it without the flash first, just long exposures on the tripod. It's very very hard - at least for me - to create natural looking wide angle shots inside with flash. There's just too much in the pictures to light.

Balance outside light with interior lighting by not shooting with the midday sun outside.

Shoot bracketed shots, that way you can blend (read: do HDR) in post if you feel industrious enough.
