Let me make it clear that I'm talking about tungsten lighting, not lighting from any particular supplier.

Don't. It is far from ideal, especially if you are photographing people. See this article

Give me a day (don't have the details yet) and I'll tell you about something I think will interest you

Yes, look at the New Lencarta SmartFlash 200, much better both in terms of quality and price IMO than anything else on the market, now that the prices have been temporarily slashed.

ere garry do the smart flashes take S type fittings? (like I thought the rest of lencarta kit did)

Yes, exactly the same Bowens 'S' fit as all other current Lencarta lights.
The only difference between the SmartFlash and the Elite Pro is that they are 200's not 3 or 600's and they have less buttons on the back.
And of course, now that they're on at sale price, they are not much more than half the price of the ElitePro 300 - complete kits for £250 instead of £445

how long will these be at that price?? :) i have that set already and paid full price couple months back :) 4 lights im sure are better then 2 for £250 i can't refuse :P.

would there be any le-way to change 1 of the softboxes for some background reflectors & or octaboxes??

Interesting article but may I suggest an update as it is 3 1/2yrs old and with the new low energy lamps that are now on the market as I think this will give some people a new why to use lighting

The price will hold only until a certain number have been sold, and I don't know when that will be - but at the present price it's a bit of a no brainer when people compare them to other brands and they are already selling fast...

Sorry, the background reflectors are sold out and unfortunately will be out of stock for a while. You can upgrade to a different softbox, no problem, just pay the price difference. This will need to be done as a phone order.

Yes, fluorescent lights have moved on since that article was written. Many of them have a lot more power, but the power is still pretty inadequate for shooting people, they still have limited or no power adjustment, they still have limited (or usually no) means of fitting light modifiers and they still have a discontinuous colour spectrum.

That statement isn't true of the pro lights used in TV studios but IS true of the more affordable ones sold for home studio use.
