Has anybody had any experience with the Interfit INT117 Super Cool Lite 5 continuous lighting units ? - I'm potentially looking at using them in a area with no roof for bouncing flash for portrait work, or would i be better sticking with traditional flash units ?

Bouncing flash off of a ceiling is one approach, but there's far more to portrait photography than that.

I think a good starting point would be an understanding of both how portrait photography works and what lighting equipment does, and these basic guides may help.

Once you understand the principles of studio lighting you'll go for flash, not for any form of continuous lighting

I use one of these for photographing babies in their homes. Flash is no good as it distresses (sometimes) the baby, so a continuous cool light source is ideal, especially in a dimly lit room.

I find that surprising - generally, flash has come and gone before it's noticed and very rarely causes any kind of problem, especially when it's diffused. Continuous light often causes discomfort, and isn't bright enough anyway.

They must have tougher babies in your part of the world. Down here 3 of the first five I shot with studio lights became inconsolable after the first 5 mins. As for brightness I often shoot with no lights, using an f2.8 aperture. The Interfit light is just used when its a particularly dim day/room.
