Anyone know anything about lights? ;)

I have found a room/studio which myself and a couple of other mates are going to rent. It is 6mx7m. I am looking at some extra lights that I don't have to borrow. I found these which I could afford (on credit!). Anyone have knowledge of them?

I will also have access to a couple of other lights for much of the time, but they occasionally have to go to their owner for visits. :)

Not up to much from what I've heard if they're like the el cheapo interfit.

Lencarta 2 head with softboxes are only £340 http://www.lencarta.com/lighting-st...ads-1/twin-head-mains-powered-starter-kit-504

More powerful ones are £400 but you'd need softboxes as they're brollies: http://www.lencarta.com/lighting-st...ads-1/twin-head-mains-powered-starter-kit-509

Find a 0% credit card :)

Thanks, I have saved those into my browser for further inspection...:)

Cheers

Craig, I have just bought some Lencarta Elitepro300's. If you want to have a test before you buy I could pop down one day for a few hours and let you have a play? :)

That might be fun, Rob. I aim to have the keys to the studio room before the end of the month, so that may be an option.

I think I need to look for a way to get Lencarta on credit rather than Interfit...a couple of others have said interfit is not so good...

Cool, the offer is there if you need it. Just give me a shout! :)

I'm really happy with them so far though! :D

Not a fan of the interfit lights personally and at that price they are not exactly cheap

No, probably not that cheap, but depends on having the money up front, or on credit...:)

Sorry! Didn't see that bit in your original post :)

Is it interest free credit, or are they charging you a wedge on top, making them even more expensive?
Couldn't see their credit charge on that page. Must admit I didn't look any deeper into it either.

They do show the credit charges, once you've committed to buy - 29.99%
To the OP - if you can't afford to buy a kit of a better make that costs about the same amount, why not buy a single head with stand and umbrella or softbox, plus a 5-in-one reflector, which will cost you far less and which will be almost as versatile?

There must be far better loan deals available, surely
Is Tricity Finance still going? They were better than most at one time.

Sainsbury's are offering loans at 6.1%, and it would mean you can spend your money anywhere you please

Are you and your mates planning on running a studio and charging for portraits?

If so can you not use the lights you can borrow until you get some money?

Certainly makes better sense as a short term solution

With Argos you have 6 or 9 months to pay interest free then you start to pay interest if not payed and its only interest on whats left to pay

Thanks everyone...yes, I know the credit will cost, but it's a solution to purchasing something before I can afford to buy it outright. I already have the credit facility and don't fancy getting a new one! :)

Yes, in the long term. One of us does some weddings since he was made redundant 18 months ago...he's doing ok with that. The others and me are novices (although not bad). None of us have done any serious studio work, and so the intention was to use the studio room (with the cheap rent and easy terms) as a PRACTICE room in the first instance, and only start getting in clients once we were good enough to do so. I did plan to invite the families of my daughter's school friends for a cheap session almost posing for CD, giving us an opportunity to practice on real life people/kids rather just shooting our ugly mugs all the time. :)

Hmm. Wex are selling that kit for £359.99 (still more expensive than the Lencarta SmartFlash) and there may well be cheaper sellers than them, so there's £57 of 'interest' to pay Argos even with the 'free interest'.

To the OP: If you're planning to give this kit any real use, let alone pro use, there are far more suitable products available from Bowens, Elinchrom or Lencarta at prices that start at lower prices.
