Just bought these today...

When I get them up and running Ill post some photos...

I primarily bought them because reviewed ok for price and these will be my fill in lights...also to use on my hilite...but imagine they should be okay for most stuff...Jessops have a deal on the price and you get a 5-in-1 reflector as well...

Thats where I got mine from to, I am impressed with the kit TBH

was able to get further discount via cashback to which was nice

recommended from me, i've put a pic up in the people/portraits section

We gor £50 vouchers from work...so put them towards the kit...It all looks robust and certainly good enough to do what I want...

You wont be disappointed, always makes it better when you get extra money off to :)

I use the interfit EX heads at work and they seem fine. I'm not sure if they are the mark II heads but it's two head kit with lightstands, softbox and 2 spill kills. The light they give off is consistent and does the job. What does lack is build quality but this is to be expected for entry level lights, careful of the knobs on the lightstands as these can sheer off easily.

Thanks...will be light with the mits on these...!!!

Think Ill have a wee play tomorrow...

got another use for mine at the weekend

only thing that i don't like is the lack of a carry case, spent another £45 on a interfit rolling bag yesterday

Really toying with the idea of these as lencarta are out of stock and I'm getting itchy fingers! Plus I can get a three head setup for the price of 2 lencarta smartflashes.

I know the quality isn't as good but....

Can either of you let me know if the stands are air cushioned? And is there a widely available range of flash modifiers at fair prices?

You're limited with modifiers as the EX/EXD range have their own fitment, unique to them, but the Interfit modifiers are by no means bank-breakingly expensive. The stands appear to be COR750 stands, which are air cusioned (the standard interfit stands, the same that come with just about all of their packages). I thoiught about the EX series heads, but ultimately I wanted something with an S-Typew fitment, so went for Venus series instead, although these are going back because of a fault and I'm considering paying a little extra and getting Lasto Lumen8s instead.

I thought they were standard Elinchrom mounts? If so, you will have no trouble being able to get plenty of cheap modifiers.

Could be I guess, it just looked like they were their own fitment, there's no mention of Elinchrom anywhere. Bonus if so. I should point out that I don't have any EX/EXD heads so I can't be sure

You would think so. In an ideal world perhaps.

But I have a prolinca 400 watt sec gun that has seen a very hard life and has never even so much as blown a bulb, even when inside an Octa with 150watt modelling bulb on.

They look to me like they are made by Jinhui, which are a respected Chinese maker of guns. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

thanks for that... well, I think im going to make a decision and put my order in tonight before the dreaded V.A.T rise :) save myself a few quid.

Its a real toughie making a choice :)

Don't know if they are still valid....

I've got a couple of sets, one set mk1 1 set mk2, and for me as an amatuer and very occasional user they do the job in a small home studio. I've also bought an additional range of accessories, Barn doors, snoot, beauty dish etc, some are ok, (snoot is a bit naff though, too small and not enough power).

Like everything you buy, these are cheap end and in hindsight I probably should have bought something more powerful - but that seems the same with everything I buy.

Simon.

they are still valid, but im looking at three head setup from another online retailer, so they wont help... Jessops do the three head setup, but its nearly £100 more expensive from them :(

Where?

I've got to say that the thing that would put me off is the power, 150 aint much.

If it was my first and only gun, Id be looking at 400 watt secs.

150 Ws isn't much, but power is the least important consideration - personally I would be more concerned about build quality, colour temperature and flash energy consistency and the availability of accessories before I worried too much about power.

For amateur use, where large prints are unlikely to be important, you can effectively double the power simply by changing the camera ISO from 100 to 200 without worrying too much about loss of image quality.

hi Gary. thanks for that :) any news on the smartflashes? and are is your VAT going up or are you having a grace period?

I doubt if it is any better or worse than any other Entry level Chinese made guns.

Nobody can give a valid opinion on anything they haven't even seen, much less used. Only opinions that count are those of users.

I have never used them, but they appear to be made by Jinhui, who as I said, also make the very well regarded Calumet Genesis line which has excellent build quality, colour and output consistency.

POTN has plenty of threads on the Calumet Genesis line with user reports.
