Hi guys,

I need to get some lights and a studio set up as soon as possible as i'm having loads of enquiries to have portraits done but no studio to do it in.

I dont have major amounts of cash at the moment but i'm hoping with a few photography jobs i can save the money to buy a better lot of equipment, I just need something to get me started.

What is your opinion on the Interfit EX150 Home Studio Flash Kit? I know you get what you pay for ect but i'm not looking at it as a long term thing, just a starting point to build and learn from!

Please give your opinion or if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know

thanks :)

I use them and have no issues with them.
Perfect for one or two people but thats about it.

I have this set and to be honest i've grown out of them very quickly (less than 9 months). I'm not sure what the 2nd hand retail value would be on them if you were only using them to get started off. I think they're good for starting out providing you're aware that you are likely to need to replace them fairly soon. Also, if you're not sure if you definitely want to be a photographer then you wouldn't be throwing away a huge amount of money.

What really annoys me about them is the high pitched squeal they make whenever the flash has charged. I've only used them for still life but i'd imagine if you were doing a portrait of a toddler then there would be a few tears over the noise of the lights.

Yes mine 'beep' to indicate the lights are ready to fire again, other than that mine are 100% silent.
I really cant fault them for the price point.
You can now get 200/300/400W versions all with the same EX mount. Have a good look at the modifiers you can get for this mount and see if they will suit your needs, The range isnt huge but should cover you for a while.

i bought the 3 light kit from here. 180ws and a bunch of accesories. some people will mention an issue with finding light modifiers to fit, but as it comes with a pair of softboxes, grid, snoot, barndoors anf colour filters, i'm still to find a need for anything else - but i am just learning to use studio lights(the reason i bought these over anything more expensive)

as a starter kit, which you will probably replace in the nearish future once you have funds and some knowledge, i can't really fault them.

I don't suppose you have a speedlight? If I were you I'd buy a stand and an umbrella... One light is all you need and if you really want two lights buy another manual flash like vivitar 285HV or one of the others from "Flash in the pan" Get over to strobist and learn how to handle one light... sorted.
