Interesting Thread over in the Challenges Section...

Nice one, Mark, I've signed up. Handy coincidence that I'm already booked for a biking weekend in Wales at the start of the dates given ;)

just thought it was an interesting challenge for one or two of the F&C regulars - and also, if one or two of us joined in the thread, we'd be able to help out the dijikal crew with sourcing dev and scan...

you see, it's all about community, and not at all about showing off how clever some of you in here are... not at all, no sir, never crossed my mind ...

Interesting. We'll see...

For some reason i thought from the title it would be a case of someone posting a picture, and you have to guess if it was taken on 35mm at 12" from the subject or if it's a large format crop :p

Just bought the cheapest throwaway I could find on ebay £4.50.
Should be fun :D

thats what never venturing out of the dark room does to the brain :p ;)

More seriously though, it is a challenge for everyone and anyone, but I am expecting the filmies to really show us predominatly digital types up! Thanks for adding the link here Mark :D

I am in and really looking forward to this, well done Yvonne it will be a cracker.:banana:

Some do - you just need to be careful! I picked up a fuji waterproof one at lunchtime for a decent price and there's no flash on it, so no problems there.

This sounds like an excuse to grab a box of five.. one for the challenge and the rest to butcher for Frankencam.

Looks like it could be fun :) I'll pop into my local Tesco tomorrow, see if they do disposables. Or even Poundland? Not sure if they do them?

Asda do for a mighty £3 either a Fuji or a "Polaroid". On closer inspection the Polaroid one is packaged by Asda who licence the name and designs, no indication of the film contained within. Or you can get a Processed paid one for £7 a scan is £3 so you're only paying a pound for the prints but you'll need to scan them. But given the quality of Asda scans you're probably better off doing that your self any way.

No luck in either Tesco or Poundland but I stumbled across Superdrug who are doing buy 1 get 2 free for £3.99! ISO400 27exp, with a flash. So a princely sum of £1.33 per camera :)
No indication of the film maker, though.

Bonus ;)

Sounds interesting - off to Majorca on the 11th :D

Couldn't find any cameras in Poundland but the 99p store next door had 24-shot 200 ISO and 12-shot 400 ISO cameras so I've bought one of each.

Opened the packages and both cameras are held closed with strips of tape, the flash camera also has another brands stickers on it under the cardboard wrapper so re-used bodies with the potential for some interesting light leaks :)

Of course there's also the chance that the films will be useless...

I went for a couple of Fuji Quicksnaps, with turn on and offable flash, 27 frames each of iso400 (so most likely Superia I'm thinking as it's the base emulsion) and £4.50 for the pair delivered. In date and almost certain to work as expected - and I do like Fuji film :D

Actually the cameras are not reused as the bodies are ripped apart by the processing machine and then recycled, its most likely that the cardboard wrapper is just there to essentially say that its the shops own brand version of it as theres only actually about 3 single use camera manufacturers.

Phone pics are low quality but I think you can see what I'm talking about. The label on the flash camera has been blocked out with a thick marker, presumably to hide the original branding.

The label's been ripped on the bottom of the camera along the joins between the body sections, presumably to replace the film.

On the back, the label states that the camera takes 27 shots but the box this came in and the cardboard sleeve that I removed say that it'll take 12 shots. The film counter was also at 12 when I opened it. I'd say it's a fairly safe bet that this one's been reloaded. :)

So... looks like we're off. Got my Quicksnaps unwrapped and raring to go, half a week in Norfolk and the other half in Majorca - should be interesting :D

Also got the wee Demi full of film (which may take some time to get rid of at 72 frames a roll) to take out too so looking like I am back into the fray with a bang this week!
