This might be as good a place as any to mention Zohra Bensemra (Reuters), who has just been chosen as the Guardian's agency photographer of the year, selected from a shortlist of 10 that included 5 women this year. Here at least, female photographers producing extraordinary work in the most difficult and often dangerous conditions are getting the recognition they deserve.
Yes, that's true, but Wilson was plainly not discriminated against by a large number of top organisations. I know that as a man I have been discriminated against in the past and that some people I've worked for had a policy of discriminating against men, but that has not prevented me from working or being moderately successful.
