It's time to upgrade one of our older older PCs, I'm thinking of a desktop using an Intel i3-2120 CPU.

Would the i3-2120, with 8GB of RAM be up to the job of running LR4?

Any views on how it would compare with my aging i7 920?

Any advice & feedback would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Chris

For most stuff an i7-920 would likely be quicker - it's a 2.66GHz quad-core (2.93GHz in single core tasks with Turbo Mode) vs. the i3-2120 which is a 3.3GHz dual-core.

That was quick - thanks James.

The i7 will not be replaced, It's my wife's old laptop that is due for retirement.

Do you think the i3-2120 would cope with LR4, even if it's not as fast as the old i7?

Thanks,

Chris

The i3-2120 has been superseded now by the i3-3220, which is the same clock speed and price, but the later micro-architecture so a little bit quicker and more power efficient.

Thanks James - nothing seems to stay unchanged for very long in the PC industry, I'll look out for the 3220.

Still a little curious why you'd replace an i7-920 with one though? It's a slower chip...

Morning James,

The i7 is not being replaced, that is my main PC. It's my wifes aging laptop that will be replaced (see post #3), I've no idea what CPU is in the laptop, but its about 5/6 years old and well past it's prime.

The i7 will have to do me for a few more years yet.
