Intel Core 2 Quad with CS3 ???

Has anyone upgraded their PC to work specifically with CS3? Go to a quad core? Did you say wow when it started up and processed with CS3? Have you used Vista 64 bit? My version of CS3 says 32bit - does it work on 64 bit vista? IS there a difference between using 3gb and 4gb (with 32bit)? Any recommendations for a decent but economical PCI Express graphics card?

I use CS3 on a 2 x DUAL core Xeon so Quad Xeon and 6Gb of Ram. I also use it on a DUAL core Macbook pro with 4Gb Ram. Although both machines run Mac OS the comparison is still relevant. Basically you cannot see any difference in normal use UNTIL you do something that really pushes the system. When you enter the Liquify filter or something like that it is instant with the Quad core and nearly instant with the Dual core :) I have run both 32Bit Vista AND 64 bit Vista on the same machine and again there is little difference MOST of the time.....
 
I use a Quad Core 4G ram Vista 32bit (yea I know I dont get the full 4G,but nearly since I have a 128Meg Graphics card). Works splendididily. I was also interested and brought up the task manager and watched as I did things. Liquify (as said) makes the 4 penguins work for a living.
 
Thanks for the replies - I think that I'd like to clarify further! I currently have an Intel core 2 CPU 6300 at 1.86Ghz with 2Gb of available system memory, with a dedicated 256Mb PCI-e Graphics card. It does struggle (when pushed) with CS3 from time to time.

I have a couple of options: Add another dedicated scratch drive to the existing, upgrade the ram to 4 Gb and hope that that will be enough or buy a new CPU/motherboard/RAM and Vista (perhaps 64bit license?). My existing OEM Vista license is not transferrable.

The first option costs around £120, the second around £400. I am happy to pay the extra if I am going to say wow a number of times before forgetting how 'awful' the previous set up was.

Should I wait and upgrade the system when CS4 is released with full quad support on a 64bit OS?

An option you haven't mentioned would to replace your dual core cpu with a quad core in your current setup. this can be done without having to reinstall vista. i've done this myself and all that's required is a reboot following the discovery of the new hardware. cs3 uses all the cores and does feel more responsive. more memory would probably help as well and its astonishingly cheap at the moment.
 
I've just had an email from Aria @ Manchester. They are selling 2x2Gb of DDR2 RAM for........ £38 !!!

I remember paying £184 for 128Mb SDRam... In fact I also remember paying £120 for 2x16Mb for my 200MMX... Oh no I also remember paying £180 (trade) for 24 ZIFF Ram chips totalling 3Mb for my Archimedes A440/1 and don't get me started on ram packs from the early 80s.........

In fact i've still got 40+ 8bit computers in the attic :) BBCs, CPCs, VIC20s, C64s, Spectrum 48Ks, Spectrum pluses...... Its the way forwards. No its not really its the way backwards but they were a lot of fun...

I should start selling from off again:)

^^Easiest option^^

If your motherboard supports it just pop in a Quad core and 4Gb memory, I know Vista32 won't see it all but it's worth it :)

See my post above, 4Gb for £38 !! Shame there are so many different versions of windows! at least 8 client and 1 or 2 server stops you just upgrading the memory to 8Gb >> certainly not expensive with 4 slots and £76 but you need a 64 bit OS.

i can remember thinking that £2 per gigabyte for a hard drive was a bargain. i can remember hard drives with capacities measured in Mb. i can remember my first pc, a 486SX/25. At my age, i'm surprised i remember anything at all :lol:
 
I once paid £450 for a 30mb hard drive!

Unfortunately the CPU is not replaceable with a Quad - already checked with ASUS. :'(

have you checked to see whether there's a bios upgrade to support quad core. if not, bit of a bummer.
