Hi, Im currently getting quotes for insuring two cars. Cover for both will start on the same date. Both with me as only driver. So far I have to select breakdown cover separately for each. This is obviously ridiculous as I can only be in one at a time.

Does anyone know if any insurers let you select breakdown cover for "any" car or will I have to arrange breakdown cover separate from the insurance with the RAC or someone?

Thanks,

With the AA the cover is with the person not the car.

Can't see the point of having it on the cars policy as what if you change car or you are a passenger in someone elses car when there is an issue.

same with the RAC.

but the bundled cover by insurance and banks is usually bare bones breakdown. probably better off buying it separate.
They offer varous (usually 4) levels I usually go for home start, roadside assist and recovery. No europe stuff. About £80 normally. I suspect AA/RAC may be more than this. ( but if only £20 or so then yes, prob my best bet)

As already said, with the AA & RAC the cover is with the person, not the car, so if I drive someone elses car and it breaks down, I'm covered.
Even being a passenger, you claim you are the driver ;).
Having said that my ins company wants about £35 / year for breakdown, the "all in" AA costs me well over £100 / year.

Yes this is my dilemma. Am hoping someone will come along and mention an insurer that'll also do multi car breakdown.

We get bundled european wide cover with the bank account - it covers *any* owned by either myself or my wife regardless of who is driving, so the kids are covered too.
That said, as with all bundled stuff, you need to make sure you get the value from the benefits to match the fee.

So what you do is you use one of the cashback places like topcashback
Depending on what you want you get lots of money back, usually arround £60
http://www.topcashback.co.uk/aa_uk_breakdown/
Then as an new member you get the introductory discount so it's costs about £100 for the cover for two people. Then next year you do the same but swap to RAC for the introductory offer and flip flop between the two, otherwise you fiond the £160 cover before cashback becomes £240

If you change car, you update the policy, you'll still have the breakdown cover.

I get a years free AA breakdown and recovery when I get the car serviced so don't have to bother with including it in my insurance or paying for it in any other way.

If you shop at Tesco you can get cover for about £20 using clubcard points, which will be the far cheaper option.

Aviva might do this on their Multi Vehicle Policy, but I'm not 100% as I don't work in that department.

Yeah same here, was quite surprised tbh, as long as I use a Ford Approved centre for a small service, I get 12 months breakdown cover on my clapped out Focus. Already had to use it once when the gear cables broke! lol

+1 that's what I've been doing for years, seems to be the cheapest way of doing it. Although worth noting that you don't normally get the cashback until you've had the policy about 6months, it's not an immediate refund.
