I am currently with E&L for my camera insurance but have heard they do not like to pay out if they can help it.
Is there anyone else you would recomend from personal experience?

Jules,

see other thread just running on this at the moment

I'm assuming you're a working photographer i.e. earning some sort of income from your work, in which case Cliik are the current favourites it seems.

E&L haven't got a good rep on here and are infamous for using a number of loopholes to not pay claims. I've never had experience of this but there's a few on here that have. E&L stands for Equine & Leisure so maybe that's a clue as to what they're best at.

This is on the E&L website on the camera part regards the excesses they charge;

The excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. It is 7.5% of the insured loss with a minimum of £150 for all sections except Public Liability where it is £250. For theft from vehicles/certain public areas the excess becomes 12.5% of the insured loss with a minimum of £250 for all sections. The excess is double for overseas claims.

Lose £10k worth of kit and the excess is £750, or £1500 if you're abroad at the time. And God help you if you get kit stolen from a vehicle abroad!!

Used Photoguard (didn't like their terms and conditions when renewing - bit too vague) they however were very professional and quick when claiming ( dropped camera and lens from bag :/ )

Currently with Towergate - haven't needed to use them for a claim yet though.

I've got 2 policies running with Photoguard at the moment, 1 for myself and 1 for my wife. I could of put it all in one lot, but once I got over £10,000 the excess automatically changed so 2 policies worked out best. Not had to claim yet, but I've heard lots of good reports.

They are a shower of ***t Jules. I was with them. Never ever again as long as I have a breathe in my body.
I moved over to

a proper insurance company

I've had a claim and it was painless and speedy. Cheque arrived within 5 days.

Did I mention how much I dislike E & L??

Kev.

im with gloverhowe.co.uk and heard nothign but good things about them ,

Not being a pro, house insurance with John Lewis for me, previously having used NFU Mutual.
Even happy to insure the big tuna for a small extra premium and offering world wide cover.

Thanks guys - I will have a look through those properly a bit later. I'm just a bit concerned that after all I've heard, E&L will do all they can not to pay in the event of a claim.

@ epic - I wish I was earning money from my camera - cant see that happening for some time yet but it's a nice thought.

No worries Jules, we've all been where you are and having looked at your website I don't think it'll be long before you do join the ranks of those paid for their images:thumbs:

I thought that household contents insurance can cover camera equipment (non-commercial use only, I think)?

It might be worth a quick phonecall to see if you're already covered and, if not, how much it would cost to add it on.

I'm with Cliik http://www.cliik.co.uk/
And I just put in a claim for 90% of my kit as it was stolen out of the back of my car.
Claim took about 2 weeks to process from receipt of the forms and I got a touch more than I claimed for (covered Excess).
I'm waiting for the cheque still but that should be here tomorrow or Friday.
Premium wasn't high. Steve was a nice guy to deal with and I will be highly recommending them to anyone that asks.

Well I have now cancelled E&L (easiest way with no questions was to tell them I sold my kit) and looked at the others. Cliik looked good but they only insure pros so have gone with Aaduki. Really nice guy on the phone - will see how these go. At least I'm not with E&L any more :)
