Just wonderd were can i get camera insurance?
what is the best thing to do house and contents or separate insurance?
Need to get something becuase i always take my camera in some stupid places and could drop it

Just wonderd aswell how it works if i had to claim because anyone can make it up and how would they belive me??

http://www.photoguard.co.uk/ is a popular place to go.
For a claim (this comes form my own personal experience) your insurer will usually require a receipt to prove you actually bought the item, and then may wish to see the damage too!

I went with E&L - not had to claim yet but the premium is cheap and gives good cover.

Be surprised if your house insurance doesn't cover you for accident and theft. Check your policy. Mine covers me up to £2000 for a single item, but I would have to prove somehow that I own it. I think I have a £100 excess, which I can live with. They accept the boxes/manuals if you don't have the receipt, but you may wish to check that or just list the kit you have with them so they have it on record. The only exemption is that they will not insure if it gets pinched out of the car. But my car insurance covers me in that case. And besides, I would never leave my camera kit in the car anyways.

some of them wont also cover from theft from hotel rooms or such like unless there is a forcible entry

House Contents insurance will cover you in a lot of circumstances but you must make sure you have "Personal Possessions" cover which means cover away from the home. There will usually be a limit for a single item and you may want to check exactly what your company views as a single item when it comes to DSLR bodies / lenses. You may also want to look into the wording under the "Contents temporarily removed" section for cover in hotel rooms etc.

If you use your Contents insurance to cover you on holiday also be aware that the Personal Possessions cover will have exclusions with regards items being left unattended. For example - if any of your camera kit is in the hold of a plane it is unattended so any loss / damage may need to be claimed from the airline rather than your insurance.

Basically - definately read the policy wording and if you're confused by it call your insurance company / broker and make sure you know the in's and out's of the cover that you do have and what the exclusions are!

I have heard that sometimes household insurance will class the kit as one item, so if you loose a dslr, lens and flash, then they may only class that as one thing, not three seperate things - so read the small print!

(note to self: must do this too! Am supposed to be covered on household insurance, but I didn't speak to the insurance company, my partner did and he said it was all covered..hmm!)

Oh dear.
You might do well to do a search on here about them and maybe reconsider if you ever leave your kit in your car.....

Kev.

I have all my kit covered by my contents insurance, but I did contact the insurers just to make absolutely sure I was covered for all eventualities and I do pay a small increase in premium for this cover.

i was covered with e and l but heard alot of bad things about them so ive cancelled with them and just got cover with photoguard, heard alot of good reviews about them and they've given me a good premium:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
