Obviously I'll have to check the fine print, but in general does your household contents insurance cover you (for being an idiot) and leaving your camera bag in an airport?
 
May do dependent on cover, All risk accidental, away from home, Some companies also limit level of claim to less than value if at home Etc etc the only way find out is ring them up,

I've just had to adjust mine to cover items when outside the home as they were only covered when in the house. I also had to specify the items i.e Nikon D90, lens types, iPhone etc etc. It also covers accidental damage and it put my premium up £36 for the year so was well chuffed :thumbs:
 
Thanks guys - the policy states cover of personal possession up to £5k away from home, but the camera equipment itself is specifically insured ... as suggested the best way will be contact the insurance company, though I'm still holding out some hope that it can be found!
 
its possible that (like camera insurance) they wont pay out if you admit you left it unattended.
My camera insurance refused to pay out when my stuff was stolen, because I had left it unattended. So be careful how you word your claim.
However, there was a guy on TPF who left his camera equipment in a field and ING paid up. (Unlike Photoguard.. did i ever mention before on TPF how much I hate them?? )
 
I would also check if it covers for being abroad," away from home " I have suspect only covers this country.

It really does depend on the wording, if it says lost you should be fine.

Mine says lost and covered me when i left my laptop and camera in a bus stop/on the bus - not sure which :)

As said before, check wording before submitting but also be careful with dates. Some policies say if not reported in 24hrs/48hrs then you can't claim

If your kit has been "lost" due to having been stolen the insurers will want to know when you reported it to the police and they'll check on what you told the police.
 
Well it would appear that sometimes I can get lucky - camera returned to me today in one piece :D needless to say I'm a happy chappie - and thanks to those who posted on this thread!
