Good afternoon all, having recently upgraded to a D810 I took advantage of the free 2nd Year Warranty through Nikon themselves. Received my paperwork today and they're offering a "Nikon Protection Plan" (offered via Domestic and General) which covers accidental damage for £155.88 for a year.

Has anyone taken this out?...wondering if it's a worthwhile plan or better ones are available. It suggests "enhancing your 2 year manufacturers warranty to three years with the Nikon Protection Plan costs £12.99 a month for 12 months by direct debit... or one off payment of £155.58". I imagine this is essentially a rolling plan which costs £155 per annum...

Considering my photoguard insurance covers nearly 7k of gear for less than that, I'd probably look elsewhere.

Extended warranties are a scam. As Mr Sane says, look at stand-alone insurance, or speak you whoever does your domestic cover and see what they'd charge. And read the exclusions!

Sounds advice... thanks guys. I'll take a look at a standalone offering - start with a forum search as I'm sure it's been discussed many times before.

I got that offer in the post yesterday. Straight into the shredder !

I've had the same offer a couple of times when ringing to register bodies for the 2 year warranties. Politely declined as I'm covered cheaper on my home ins.
