Insurance, just had to cancel mine, who to go to now?

I've just emailed them for a quote. So car cover is sensible with them? (If kept out of sight.) Folding seats aren't a problem?
Heres hoping....

Kev.

Indeed, I asked very specifically about the cover when left in a car. If it's out of sight in the boot etc then it's fine. Which is much more sensible.

Pete

Hi Pete,
You used the word 'boot'. That word scares me after our E & L experience. lol.
Did you ask about hatchbacks etc?
Sorry to be a pain!

Kev.

I did. Hatchbacks, estates etc are all no problem as long as the kit isn't visible from outside the car.

Pete

I've been doing some phone calls today to the insurers recommended on this thread
I spoke to Photoguard, Glover & Howe, and Towergate (I will call http://www.imaginginsurance.co.uk/ tomorrow) they have all had the same test and questions, do they have good customer service - i.e. people that give straight answers to straight questions. I also told them that I wanted a printed paper copy of there t@c's and a sample policy to read (I also told them why)- all were more then happy to send them - so I will be doing a bit of reading. I asked them all if they covered estate cars with fold down seats and they all said yes.
On another note I have spoken to our trading standards department and they are going to look into the E and L policy wording for me to see if there are grounds for action against them. This is a very worthewhile thread - if anyone else has experiances of insurenace companies both good and bad please let us all know. thanks

Well, today I spoke to http://www.imaginginsurance.co.uk/ and they were great! They seem to live in the real world. I now have insurance cover again. :-)
I would happily recommend them. Very good to deal with and very straight about their cover.

Kev.

I spoke to them as well today, genuinely very helpful and straight answers to straight questions.

Unfortunately they were a little expensive compared to towergate who were also straight with me when asked about their T&Cs

By the look of it, I`d struggle to choose between either. In the end I chose Towergate who were around £55 cheaper.

I too am looking into insurance as we speak. Hope you dont mind me asking but what kit did you insure and for how much? This is a general question to everyone if they dont mind :)

I need to insure all the kit in my kitbag section.

Ask yourself - have you EVER claimed? How long have you been paying ? How much have you paid out in premiums? Is it worth it? = NO! Have you EVER seen a poor insurance co? I wonder why? They ALWAYS find a reason not to pay out - or pay less than you expect.

I have £10,000 cover and £2M PL for about £600. Do I sleep better at night because if it? ~ yes!

(Have to have the PL by law anyway).

so you don't have house insurance then?
holiday insurance?

The reason for this thread is to weed out the crooks and find the good insurance companies; but lets not forget they all have to make some money.:rules:
and yes i have claimed on insurance and been paid out as expected...

I finished work on 22nd December and don't go back until 31st. Go in for the day and then off New Years Day.

Trouble is I've got a heavy man's cold!!!!

I have the insurance I have to have and that's all. I don't think there is such a thing as a 'good' insurance company. You won't find out till you try to make a claim though!

I've just had a long conversation (about 40 minutes) with some people at E & L http://www.eandl.co.uk/ I think I ended up speaking to the boss; at least the highest boss they were willing to pass me to

The result is that I will be terminating my insurance with them after first finding alternative insurance elsewhere.

Thanks to everyone who had posted about E & L. I've decided to get a new Canon 40D and was going to go with E & L for the insurance. Not anymore! I'll pick a more honest insurance company.
