Evening all,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of an insurance company that will do ad hoc cover on hired gear against loss and theft. I'm really tempted to rent a lens but know if I do, even if I am covered for damage (which with lensesforhire you can be ) I will lose it, or more likely given I'd be going hostelling for a week with it, have it nicked :bang:

So, anyone know who I can get cover from that wont charge an arm and a leg but would actually pay out if it happened?

Cheers

I had a look at aaduki but got the imression it cost a fortune to add rented gear to the policy? May be wrong though, will have another look

I can feel my ears burning ....

If you hire from LensesForHire, our (optional) insurance can cover you against damage, theft or loss. There's a summary of the policy small print here. There are the usual exclusions and requirements, but pretty much the same as any insurance policy as far as I can see.

We don't have any claims experience yet. We have one claim in progress (read the saga here) where a customer left a lens on a train, but we haven't yet heard whether it will be successful. It's a bit of a grey area - on the one hand the policy does cover for loss, but on the other hand negligence is excluded. We'll see. Damage and theft (if reported properly to the police etc.) ought to be much more straightforward.

Cheers Stewart,

I was under the false impression your insurance was damage only :bang: makes hiring much less of a headache

Unfortunately I've left it way too late to look at getting a lens for my next trip (on Wednesday) but next time
