not sure if this is the right place to put this, sorry if its in the wrong place...

Just wondering where the best place to get my equipment insured is??

Any reccomendations much appreciated

Cheers,

unless you have an insane amount of equipment, your best and probably cheapest would be your house contents insurance.

My camera gear is insured through ING Direct for £10,000 against loss, theft, accidental damage in and away from the home, amongst all other protection I get for other stuff.

Premium is £27.69 per month. Have to say very good considering what's covered, including accidental damage cover to my Trek Madone racing bike :)

I can whole-heartedly recommend Imaging Insurance. My annual premium works out at about £10.50 per £1000 of replacement value. But we don't pay VAT when we calculate the replacement values, so that translates into a little over £9 per year per £1000 of replacement value at shop prices (ie including VAT). The policy covers accidental damage, plus unlimited travel in Europe and up to 60 days worldwide, as well as the usual stuff. And my claims experience is very good too.

To put that in the context of the other numbers mentioned above:
ING Direct - £33.23 per year per £1000 of replacement value
Photoguard - £40.00 per year per £1000 of replacement value

If anybody else has some numbers to contribute, I'd be happy to compile them into a league table.

i would be interested in that league table as i have to much stuff to just have it on th house insurance now so going to get a new policy after chrstmas

added mine to my household insurance and its less than camera specific ins

when i dropped a lens at home i recieved a cheque to replace it within a week and they used jessops to mark the value

I got mine from Aaduki with £5M PLI (excluding US & Canada, inc. trackside) and £7500 kit for £225/yr. Bear in mind that if it is business/commercial use then that may not be covered by standard household contents cover.

Cheers

Who did you have your insurance with? - If you don't mind me asking

My household insurance covers mine. It was a great deal at £13/month, then my premium jumped to £47/month when i moved a mile away. Damn London postcodes!!

I added mine to house ins with direct line Have a personal possetions part which covers my gear while I'm out including on holiday

Glover & Howe are fantastic, I had a bit of an accident a while back. G&H had new equipment at my door within 2weeks. Great, professional service. Highly recommended.
