insurance for equipment

While on the subject as I'd be quite interested in an insurer will they insure second hand lens or only new ones with receipt?

There are many threads discussing this but personally I use Cliik :)

I use Aaduki and yes, they will insure second user equipment.
Been with them for 4 years now with no problem but never had a claim yet (which is when we will see how good they are)

Photoguard

can anyone suggest an insurance provider please
Lots of answers already, but perhaps if you share your requirements a little more, you may get an answer that is more useful.

What are you looking to insure?
How much?
Any special risks? etc.

In very many cases, the average 'joe' will find that should they have home contents insurance, it is more than adequate. There is certainly no need to take out extra 'camera' specific insurance in a lot of cases.

Cliik here! Very good

I posted about this recently, got some recommendations and then went to work on the phone and Internet to figure out what would be the best way forward. I am not a professional but I do have a significant amount of kit. Eventually, after comparing what could be taken out of the house and how much I would have to name / specify, I decided to go with my house insurance and have nominated the big ticket items. It's also worth mentioning that our house ins is with a company that specialises in my profession and so that part of the cost is less. I read reviews and found myself thinking that specialist photo firms were perhaps of more use to professionals. Anyway, good luck.

Home insurance for me, had a claim a few months ago when a lens fell out of my bag and into a stream, no hassle other than sending in photos of the item in question (17-40L) settled in a couple of days once ownership was verified. £550 in Jessops at the time, Offered me £500 due to £50 excess. Didn't affect my new policy either :-)

I'm another who's with Cliik.

Perhaps not surprisingly, home/contents insurance weren't interested in doing outside-the-home and accidental damage on a Canon 1 series plus big white combo.

Are Cliik just business cover or do they cover individuals.
Their website certainly seems business orientated

general rule is to avoid specialist insurance for anything. they normally are specialists in finding reasons not to pay up. Home insurance is best way (you can even use some policies if your equipment is for business).
I've claimed with Post Office Insurance (which i think is Zurich? not sure) and they paid up no hassles.
Photoguard are the worst.. They will find every way they can not to pay up. And their sister company that covers bicycles does the same!

When asking for people to recommend insurance companies, ignore any advice from anyone that hasnt made a claim. Its like taking recommendations for a restaurant that they havent eaten in.

I unfortunately had to use my home insurance and it was fine. Hiscox even covers business equipment left in the home which was a good thing as beside my Nikon pro lenses two MacBooks were taken as well.
