Does anyone have any recommendations for insurance for there kit?

Covering theft, accidental damage or loss. Its about £11 per month on my house insurance.

I have about 3K worth of kit to insure and want to make sure its with the right people so would appreciate your feedback :)

There are dedicated companies out there that deal with camera kit insurance.
Think they go into all the details if individual items etc.

There's photoguard, eandl, towergatecamerasure to name a few.

Google them for more info

Is that £11 including your home insurance or ontop of it?

sorry £11 additional cover on top of my home and contents

Presumably that's not just for your camera kit though. It'll provide similar cover for your other belongings too.

Everyone will have their own thoughts and recommendations on this...and I'm no exception :)

I have my home contents and buildings insurance with M&S. You can opt for Premium cover that gives the extras like accidental cover. The thing that swung it for me, apart from their premium being the cheapest (for me), was that you don't have to declare any individual items under £4000. So my camera kit and £3000 MTB are automatically covered.

However, that's only useful if you're home insurance is up for renewal shortly and you can change providers. :)

Going off off topic slightly. Every year I try to get a better deal on my insurance policies and cover for my MTB, away from home, is always at the top of my list of wants. There are dedicated, specialist policies for bicycles, as there are for camera kit, but the premiums are way ott imo. So I try to get a home policy that covers the bike and as soon as I tell them how much it's worth they run a mile. Most have a cycle limit something ridiculous like £500. End result, I end up sticking with M&S.

PS I don't have any association with them.

yeah mobile laptops etc etc .. perhaps it wasnt as bad as it sounded

I use Photoguard... Been just fine so far.

The only bad thing I've heard is from another photographer that changed because they didn't insure equipment overnight in a car. Very rarely would I be in that situation.

Interesting, e&l were fine with me, just a hassle to add on new gear, im looking to change insurers too so I'm deffo watching here :)

I'm with santander and pay a few pound extra a month to have £5000 cover for when I'm out and about. It covers my camera, phones, handbags(not mine) and I think a bit of cash. It's £9.50 for that and my contents insurance, I don't have buildings as I'm in a council place. I made 1 claim 3 years ago for a laptop my first born broke and it was sorted within 3 days.

I have my buildings and contents with Hiscox. Accidental damage included, away from home included, don't need to tell them about my contents are unless I have works of art valued at over £15,000, as long as the total amount insured covers all of my contents. I specifically checked about my camera equipment, it's included without telling them anything about it.

The camera equipment would not be included if I used it for any paid work, which is why I give away photos (licences, strictly speaking) to people that ask, if I like them.

Do you ever keep your gear in the car? If so, you might want to read the small print. ;)

Kev.
