Guy's in case any of you are thinking of purchasing anything from this company here's my very recent experience with them.

Bought a new house last year and it has very spacious rooms so instead of normal 4+3 or 3+2 sofa's we bought a large corner suite which was stunning. It is called the Saturn and really set the room off for approximately 3 months. After that is started to bobble very badly and the dark bobbles made the light grey suite look dirty and older than it should. We called the store and explained we weren't happy with it and they said they'd send someone out to see what was going on. Some guy from an upholstery company came round and asked if we had pets on it, children on it, even slept on it basically trying to excuse the appearance and then said I can see why you're annoyed but it's not a fault just a characteristic of the material !! I waited for the response from the company which was exactly as the guy said then contacted trading standards. They have said that I should try a fabric shaver which I did and it looked great. Problem is after a few weeks back to doing this again and again. Trading standards have now said I could take court action but the fact is a judge may not side with me as it can be easily remedied. Hours of shaving a couch every few weeks p***es me right off and the attitude of this shop is also annoying. I asked if I could have it re-covered and they said no so here I am with a one year old couch looking around for a company to upholster it when it should be fine.

I had two material suites from SCS before this and have never had any issue with bobbling or pilling as they call it. I really think it's a case of them using a material that's completely unsuitable for couches and their customer service is appalling. Beware.

Have they got a Facebook page, twitter account. I'd be making the most of those if they have.

I've no idea Steve. I've honestly never had a company care less with anything. I work in customer services and can't believe their attitude but have no desire to drag it through the courts. Just one of those take notice and learn times for me.

Not Currys is it? ;)

That's a new one on me, that's for sure!
But if you keep shaving the fabric, won't it eventually go bald?

No because it's designed to remove the pilling/bobbles. Apparently this is something that's been around for years and been a problem in woollen jumpers etc and these machines (which look like electric razors) are the answer and don't damage the fabric at all. That's all well and good but it's not a face we're shaving it's a bloody giant corner suite and it takes hours.

To be honest if it's genuinely a characteristic of the material, unless it's actually affecting the use of the item I can see the point of the store, I mean ultimately you did pick that material, okay so you may not have realised it would or could wear like that..

I would be interested in seeing photos of the issue to see how bad it is that it's causing this degree of distress that you would go as far as to consider court action.

When I bought a leather suite from DFS was wearing jeans at the time and the salesman advised against the colour I liked
because the jeans would mark it, they had problems in the past.
It would have been nice if it is a known issue if Instyle had done this

My biggest gripe was that instyle are obviously shaving their suite on display which is a bit sly. If I walked in that store and saw theirs looking like mine did I'd never have bought it and I think they know this fine well. As mentioned above a simple sign or a word from a member of staff would have gave me the information I required to decide not to buy it.

There must be plenty of materials without this characteristic they could have chosen.

I offered to put the strimmer over my neighbour's lawn the other week (it is artificial grass and shows our up our "lawn" like the grazing meadow that it is) - I won't bother to give you his reply on here.:D

We bought 2 sofas from MultiYork, never again, comfortable in shop, uncomfortable at home, no help at all. Time to go back to M&S I think.

I'd not buy from a shop that doesn't understand how to use an apostrophe correctly. :D

Fabric Shaver sounds like one of those gadgets K-Tel and Ronco advertised on TV

It works a treat. Just shouldn't be required. As for the button attacher. Mine gave birth to me !!! I would say it was more like a 20 minute attachment though by the time I get to hers.

Sorry, this bit has left me totally confused?

Is the first sentence referring to your mum?

Scott- what was the outcome? did you take them to court? i am having the same problems - we received our sofa less then a month ago which had the incorrect footstool . Gillian from the store tried to accuse us of lying and said we ordered the wrong one. on top of that the sofa has marks on it, knots and is faded in areas . the man they sent out- Hugh who is commisioned by them stated " the fabric needs 8 weeks to settle to look right and shading is in your terms and conditions " ,which is all false. i am taking this to my credit card company and finance company and if need be court. the consumer act of 2015 states that if the product is of unsatisfactory quality , faulty or the appearance and finish is not right then you are entitled to a full refund
