No
Well my flashgun was sold on ebay, and Paypal held the funds. I've had positive feedback, and they still haven't released them...thus violating their own policy!

Your funds will immediately be released when one of the following occurs:

* The buyer leaves you positive feedback
* 21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on the transaction

hmmmm....

Are you an established ebayer ?

I think different rules apply for noobs !

I've been on ebay since 2005!

This was mentioned by someone else in another thread - Puddleduck I think...

Imagine all the interest they are going to make on the money they have in their possession before releasing it!!

Don't get me started with that lol

I wouldn't mind, but there's other stuff I want with that money!

phone up paypal, scream 'LET ME SPEAK TO A REAL PERSON YOU COMPUTERISED HUNK OF ****' until the voice activated phone system is confused by your answers and puts you through to a 'real human' (i use real human in the loosest possible terms as it'll no doubt be a yank you speak to) and tell them that your funds havent been released, they will do it for you.

you shouldnt have to, especially given the fact they use the word 'immediately once positive feedback is left'

i had the same problem and that solved it, poor system though.

The interesting point about all this is that Ebay and Paypal, although owned by the same company are still meant to operate independently of each other.

I don't see how one of them can legally hold on to your funds on behalf of the other, especially since Ebay claim to be "just a venue" and not involved in trades between buyers and sellers.....

mearly a chance of eeking more shiney coins out of sellers as far as im concerned, its not like they get practically 10% of transactions (i think combined between paypal and ebay they got £23 out of a £230 sale!) anyway is it

I'd love to ring them...but it's an international call! So it'll cost ME money to get them to release MY money.

I just rang Paypal and shouted at them, and the funds have now been released :D Apparently it's ebay's fault. They have an automatic system in place that notifies Paypal's system when pos feedback is recieved. But eBay took the system offline yesterday meaning that if I hadn't rung the funds would have sat there for the 21 day waiting period before being relesed. I fall into the criteria for the funds hold, I'm not arguing that. My argument is that the system is ridiculous, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how they can legally do it. I don't go into a shop, take an item ad tell them I'll pay for it when I'm happy with it, so why can Paypal impose such a system on eBay sellers?

Yeah, yeah, isn't it always easier to pass the buck like that?

The answer is that they probably can't, but some organisations rely on the fact that consumers don't know their rights. It's like all the guff about banks being able to charge £2- - £30 for being a penny overdrawn. Technically they're not allowed to do it but they get away with it just because people don't challenge them.

However, all's well that ends well. Are you planning on buying anything nice with the cash?

I'm a bit torn. I'd really like a nice pair of studio heads. But for that I could buy the bigger bag I want, a cheapy strobe and a couple of brollies and go the Strobist route. Not sure quite yet :)

This is the official line....

In a small percentage of cases where it has been determined the risk of dissatisfied buyers is higher, PayPal may delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute, claim, chargeback or reversal filed on that transaction.

To determine if a transaction may have a higher risk of dissatisfied buyers, eBay reports to PayPal a number of factors, including but not limited to:

* Seller's % Positive Feedback in the last 30 days
* Seller's Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 30 days
* Final price for the item
* Shipping & handling fee
* Seller's eBay tenure as an eBay member
* Seller's total number of Feedback

Oh well, happy shopping whatever you decide to go for :) I wish that I had spare cash for some new kit at the moment.

It's all a load of balls. Like I said Flash, I know I fall into those criteria, but it doesn't alter the fact that what they're doing isn't helping anyone. I've had a few issues as a buyer on ebay and they've always been dealt with quickly and painlessly, without the need for funds being held.

Not spare...and my wife will kill me when I do spend it! :D
