Id class myself as a hobbyist photographer. I enjoy going out with the camera and taking images for myself, sometimes to print and hang in the house. I don't take it too seriously, however I do post them on Instagram and Facebook. I made my own photo account just so my landscape shots weren't mixed in with all my personal family shots.

What does confuse me on instagram is how some photographer accounts have hardly any followers and some have thousands. The quality of photos doesn't seem to be the key I've noticed. Some accounts have pretty mediocre photos but 1000s of followers and vice versa.

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the key is? Posting lots of videos seems to be one of them!

Right, I don't there is any correlation between followers and the quality of photos. Much more relevant are:
- Consistent style of content
- Posting 2 or 3 times a week
- Yep, videos & reels are favored
- Careful use of hashtags
- Engaging with comments, likes, etc

Often followers on instagram will like photos because someone took it and / or someone features in it or it uses a particular popular filter, rather than how good the photo is. After all IG is about content content content, satisfying followers need to see new stories from their followings and letting everyone else know what they are up to and how wonderful their lives are

I would say that Instagram is all about showing adverts and making money from that, just like facebook and other social media platforms
