Hi all,

I am fairly new to photography and usually get my inspiration from some of the all the great photographers. Here is a nice read about biographies of some inspirational photographers. Do share your views on the same.

Thanks
Jane

I don't think the OP was sharing a link I believe he wants us to share links people we are inspired by...personally I've a number of photographers that inspire my work...nearly all of them are still shooting and some I often converse with :)

I'm still learning a lot about photography. To be honest I don't have a clue about many famous photographers that have inspired me. I first started out because of a spontaneous purchase of a compact camera that was well above my league of knowledge with cameras. I then realised I couldn't work out how to do the things I wanted with it so I went to the library and took some books out. Within a week I knew all about different settings, most of the terms and more importantly how to use it to my advantage lol. Most of the people that have inspired me to go out and try new things with my camera have actually been most people on here. I like reading through all the different sections and if I like something I'll try it. If I fail I will then ask for help...which is a lot:bonk:

If I tried to list all the photographers that have influenced me in some way, I'd hit the word count limit I reckon. They're all very diverse too, and have influenced me for different reasons.

The ones that have a clear influence in my work even today are probably:

LaChappelle
Ansel Adams
Perou
Horst
Weston
Beaton
Irwitt
Meyerowitz - particlarly the book "Cape Light"
Moholy-Nagy
Ray

Why limit yourself to photographers though?

Film, theatre, music, painting, sculpture.... art in other words.... should all be influencing and informing your practice to some extent.

It varies depending what I'm most interested in at the time. Currently its portraits and I'm enjoying the works of Irving Penn, Yousuf Karsh and a lot of the often uncredited and under appreciated Hollywood studio photographers from the 1930s, 40s and 50s such as Eugene Richee.

David makes a very good point about other influences and I'm listening to Jordan Reyne a lot at the moment and similar industrial music which I find matches my mood. The darkness of the themes are finding their way into what I'm doing with the view that there is a very dark and disturbing element to life that is always there and if you scrape the underbelly of all that is nice and fluffy and wholesome it will appear like an untreated wound.

I would love to be able to express my anger and disgust of the current and political events that make me angry, but lack the creative talent/vision/ability to do so. Photo Op by Peter Kennard and Cat Phillipps is something I wish so much I could have thought of or created.

I had a dream. I wanted to shoot like Polis. I;ll never be a wedding shooter again. I don't even have a camera right now.

William Albert Allard.

Great photographer, just imported his Five Decades A Retrospective from the states.

See post #2. Have a look at some of James work. I was lucky to see one of his presentations and listen to him discuss his work. Really worth a look
