Insomnia.

Evening all

Just back from Ireland and feeling

I struggle with sleeping working 24/7 shifts. 2 earlies, 2 lates, 2 nights then rest days. Don't know whether I'm coming or going. Used to be fine when I was younger, my current best solution is the Doze app for android. Plays relaxing music over a specified time, works wonders along with a Bluetooth speaker and blackout blinds. I'm sure there are other similar apps for iOS. Well worth a try.

Same old same old....

Not all insomniacs have OSA

Had a reasonably good sleep last night, only got woken about 4am as the missus needed the bog. Both went and drifted off to sleep pretty quick, now bright and fresh and ready for another eventful day :)

Bit different last night.
Asleep at a reasonable time but awake at 2.
Read for a couple of hours and managed to nod back off until 5.45.

That's the time I got up, and I started my morning chores. Got up fed the Cat and Dog had a quick wash, and made an early morning post on here at about 615am. Then off to check on a next door neighbour who is recovering from a fall. Made them breakfast made sure they have had their medication, then whisked back to get my own Coffee and Toast. Then have time to post and tell all you guys all about it

Well....I made it to 6 hours sleep last night with a pee break at 4.30 .....still bloody knackered though

The boffins whoever they are, reckon we need eight hours sleep. I can function very well on six hours sleep, and have done so for many years. It was said a certain woman got by on only four hours sleep. Some may say that's why she made so much of a mess of the country

I think the boffins don't know what they're talking about half the time...just working on averages.
I certainly don't need eight hours to function quite happily.
Satisfied with 5...thrilled with six. Not so chuffed at 4 though

Thought I'd slept well last night then dropped back off after Mrs Nod had gone down to teach her early class. Luckily, she woke me up when she got home so I could enjoy breakfast in bed without snoring!

Used to be a real night owl, rarely going to bed before 2am but am often asleep by 10 these days, sometimes even earlier. Usually wake up early though, especially mid week when Mrs Nod's alarm goes off at 5:45 - usually awake before then.

Sorry if went off on a rant earlier on but that is how I feel about it.

same here really, can cope on 5, very happy with 6, 4 is never quite enough. if I get 7 or more I actually spend most of the day feeling really groggy and odd.

TBH i would love even 3 hours.

Dropped off reading at about 11:30pm and now wide awake at 1:15am.

So fired up my PC to do a bit of PP of shots I did of a new house I am involved with building. With today's weather it is about 6 frames....

On theme

ouch on the building pics :(

I am just about to have the first attempt of the evening to try some sleep. I may or may not be back in a bit.

I hve discovered SWNBO's stash of Xmas Baileys (She has bouggt 4 x 1 litre bottles????? ) So I think so Ben and Jerrys with a big dressing of Baileys..... will deal with the flak later

Sounds like a plan :)

Karen was out this evening and I was flagging after my trip to Ireland.

With our 4 kids cooking on gas I made a Cafetiere of strong coffee to keep me on the ball.

Now I'm paying the price.

Astrophotography and Rum... could that be the answer?

Looks a good night for it here now you come to mention it but my gear is all upstairs with the sleepy people.

Wake em up....

Better just go for the Rum......

Every. Damn. Night.

Might help

But if it doesn't you won't care

Insomnia has been my night companion for nearly 51 of my 59 years.

4 hours..... luxury

And for gloating... your punishment is to drink, in one go, a 2 litre bottle of Tizer....

We should have a 3am neet...make ourselves useful :-)

I don't think I like you anymore :(

Surely there should be cut off times on this thread that you cannot post before or after. 0823 am you're supposed to be awake!!

Not if you've already been awake most of the night.

You have a point BUT for shift workers or those on spread-overs 08:23 could easily be their Insomnia time!

Sadly Insomnia is not kind and follows on pattern.... when you should sleep you cannot.

Today I got loads done, I was on the phone to ex-clients trying to get me back into some consultancy work they need covering for contract bid purposes, so I lined up ex staff of mine, then got a break so was able to grab time to do some photography. Back home and cooked supper and now following the football.... I am knackered.

It's been a good day but when I drag myself to bed, my head will hit the pillow and bang I will be wide awake. It matters not how I pattern sleep, I never get 8 hours.

Cherish your sleep.

Steve

I am a shift worker. 14 12 hour days. Next time 14 12 hour nights. Fortunately really not being able to sleep only affects me for 3 or 4 days every month so I have a little experience of what you folk are going through.

I've ever had 8 hours sleep in my life except when I've been ill. If I get five hours during the night or day that's about it for me.

I get about two hours after two weeks of nights trying to turn back around.

I attended an Insomnia seminar a good while bavk and it was stated that 5 hours sleep was all the 'body' needed.

At Uni back in the 70s I woulf get 2 hours sleep at night and maybe an hour during a boring lecture!

My eldest son covers shifts similar to yours but seems tl get to sleep whatever shift he covers.

Early retirement for me has made no difference to my sleep patterns.

I'm sitting here yawning now, but I know it won't last.

I think I have worked out why I can't sleep - when I was a baby I slept all night with my mum and, as my dad was on nights I slept the day with him.
I guess I have used all my sleep up:)

One other problem I have is that, conversely to most men of a certain age, I wake up thirsty several times per night.
Have checked and am not diabetic.
