I know I'm new here, but has the staff issued a guideline on the use of the Insert Image icon? If people want others to comment on their shots then having to follow a URL is unnnecessary and where there are multiple images, the reviewer loses sense of the impact of the set.

This may be the views of a grumpy old man having a rant - but I believe that if you want something then make it easy for the others to give it.
 
The only limitation I am aware of is the size limit (800px on the longest side) - other than that it's people not knowing how to post pictures in threads and not being bothered to look it up....

OK, the rules are that you can use the
tags and the image must be a maximum of 800 wide on its longest side [1000 for pano's]

Like all forums there are a limit on the number of imgaes in a single post [this includes any smilies you post] which IIRC is 10, but there is nothing to stop you replying to your own thread with further posts containing the rest of the images if its a larger set. However you should also bear in mind that posing loads of pics all at once can have the same effect as posting links - they can lose their impact because there are so many of them!

People can go to the effort of:
1) resizing a picture to the right size;
2) opening flickr (or its equivalents);
3) choosing the upload feature;
4) selecting the shot;
5) doing the opload;
6) going to their photostream;
7) selecting the picture;
8) opening the picture in all sizes;
9) copying the URL;
10) opening TP;
11) creating a new thread; and
12) typing some text.

Why can't they click on the Insert Image icon and paste the URL from flickr over the "http://" that appears in the box?

They can ;)

All we ask is that the image is maximum 800px by 800px
 
Im confused now, what exactly dont they do?
