Inscription on grave stone.

I was wondering if anyone has a tip on how to enhance via photoshop text inscriptions on grave stones.
I am using PS CS5.

It is difficult to say without seeing the image (and if you post it and it is a recent one please delete the names unless it is your relations, in case their relations see it and get distressed). I would guess dodging and burning around the letters

As Christine says it's hard to say without seeing the pic, at the taking stage cross lighting might help bring out some detail.

One image is below, yes it is readable but would like to know how to enhance the text, so that it stands out more..
I have quite a few that needs similar work.

I think the previous posts have it spot on, Dodge and Burn and side lighting

Dodge and burn, This would take a fair amount of time if you have a few than need doing...

If you can reshoot and use light from the side, this will help the inscription fill with shadow making it stand out more

Finally you could cheat.....just wipe over the existing inscription (clone or heal out) and add your own text and try and make it match

Thanks TD, re-shooting is no problem, something i have done with quite a few, but others are harder.
I will try out the tips, with your efforts it does show its possible.

I'd try the burning, working zoomed in if need be you could almost write over each letter.
The lighting tip is good but unless it's very nearby the exact moment will be impracticably brief - plus on a stone encrusted with lichen you still won't see the smaller lettering very well.

If you just want the actuall lettering for family history or something I'd do a rubbing type thing rather than a photo.

Thanks for the tips, i like the idea of photographing head stones as this gets one as close as you can to a personal photograph of the person beneath..
