Ink prices

Most original inks these days are guaranteed for ~100 years. I have seen 3rd party inks on high quality paper fade in a matter of days. It definately pays to use good ink and good paper.

if you look at some of the results from tests on epson pigment they lag behind canon and totally behind HP (some of which are below 100 years)

bit like buying 3rd party lenses ;)

It's not though is it.

I am not saying ALL 3rd party inks are bad. I have seen awful results with 3rd party inks. Original inks allow for guaranteed consistency and good results. I use Epson, HP & Canon inks. All give stunning results. I have done side by side tests with 3rd party inks with Canon. Inconsistent results with all 3rd party inks I have tried with one fading in a matter of hours.

I don't understand why people by expensive cameras and produce some stunning images. Then buy a good printer and buy cheap ink! Makes no sense at all.

Because manufacturs would have you belive their inks are better - tried and tested.....

I think that you are getting confused between "cheaper" & "cheap".The cheap inks are exactly that, cheap & in a lot of cases nasty as well, The cheaper inks ie Fotospeed & Lyson are as good as the manufacturers products

Yes I have sold quite a number of framed 16x12s and a few wedding albums and never had a customer complain (quite the opposite).
