Brand new Canon Powershot A810 converted to IR with a filter of your choice.

EBay : http://www.ebay.com/itm/CANON-16MP-...043&pid=100012&prg=1014&rk=1&sd=141007847670&

It often seems like I'm a bit of an oddity on this forum, because I genuinely have no interest in collecting and accumulating equipment ;)
Every piece of kit I own has been bought for a specific purpose and gets used regularly . . . so hopefully you can understand why I've been procrastinating for a number of years about investing in a dedicated IR converted body.
As much as I admire and love looking at IR photos, it simply isn't something that I see myself getting the opportunity to do particularly often and the thought of having several hundred pounds of kit sat in a cupboard doing nothing for the biggest part of the year just seems so . . . well wasteful really

So when I came across this on EBay it seemed like a perfect compromise for me - not so expensive that I'll begrudge not getting more use from it, but a big improvement to using filters on a non-converted camera which I've tinkered with in the past.

I'm genuinely very pleasantly impressed with the service and the product too.

> Prompt and helpful responses to my questions asking for advice on which filter to choose.
> Fast turnaround and delivery time (OK it took me a while to get it, but that's because I missed the delivery and had to wait until I had chance to get to the depot to retrieve it - my fault entirely)
> Incredibly well packed on arrival - original Canon box packed inside another box for security and protection.
> And while you're never going to get DSLR quality images or the same element of control from a compact, first impressions are that this is a great little camera and actually does a lot more than I would have given it credit for.

All around  from me and based on my experience I'd recommend to anyone looking to get into IR but not wanting to go the full DSLR conversion route.

Test image below from this morning's walk with the dog:
I take any and all responsibility for the processing and flaws in these two versions - It really isn't much more than a grabbed snapshot, but it should give you some idea of what you'll get from this camera.

Crikey ! I think I am underpricing my modded cameras :)

Unfortunately none of us can ask you about your prices without breaking forum rules about trading :|
It was certainly cheaper than a lot of the other modded compacts on EBay though - a quick search on there should give you something to compare to.

TBH I thought that was pretty reasonable.
The cheapest I can find brand new A810s online is £55 including postage, ranging up to £89 which seems ridiculous.
(or currently £49.99 if you pick up from store yourself at Argos)

Add in the cost of the IR filter, I'm guessing only a few £££s but I don't really know, plus his EBay fees.
Given that this is being run as a business and taking time spent on the conversion into account, I didn't think that was an extortionate amount of profit.

no pics Sarah:thinking:

Hmmmm . . . stuck them in my TP gallery because I was on my way out and couldn't be bothered hosting anywhere else.
They're showing for me, but if people are still having issues with them later I'll rehost somewhere else.

EDIT: Hosted elsewhere now.

Yeah, I'm all aware of the rules Sarah.... It may be a while till I get my post count up enough to sell in here.... Suffice to say - I've been happy enough so far :)

Not you, but we do get a fair number of new members who don't always take the time to read the rules - and tempting as it may be, I don't want anyone else trying to start up a discussion on it in here :)

Glad that you're enjoying your stay so far and I for one have really enjoyed your contributions in the IR thread.

David, I think you already qualify for classifieds access - IIRC the criteria are 60 days membership and >25 posts. If I'm right, maybe you want to sell a converted compact?! If I'm wrong, I can wait until such time as you do qualify.

Gorgeous images :) If that's a sample I might even get one from Argos myself to try :) I take it you got the 650nm ?

I'm really impressed with the quality for a little compact - the shortfall in composition and subject matter is all mine though!
Must try to get out somewhere more interesting in the next few days to have a proper play.

This was actually the 550nm.
I went for that one on the basis that I already have a Hoya R72 filter that I can use in combination with it - although these ones were just the camera as is.

Nope - you're completely correct Nod. I hadn't realised that David had been here for that long :$:
