Bought this on Ebay, says it is Super II on the description.

I don't think it is.

Long story, shouldn't have bought it, didn't read the blurb properly (I have a Sony) and now discover it probably won't work on Canon digital so can't resell.

Can anyone tell me for sure whether this will work on a Canon digital? I can't find much about it on Google. Most references are to the DG model (which this clearly isn't)

Thanks

I am sure I have one of these in my cupboard now as well. It is a pre digital age Sigma 70-300 APO macro, I used one on my film EOS 100 and had planned on using it when I bought my first digital SLR only to find that it worked on a very intermittent basis and couldn't be relied on.

Well if it's an EOS mount lens, it will work on digital. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't.

It will fit on the camera mount OK but Sigma have to reverse engineer the electronic connections - so if canon make some subtle changes the compatibility can break.

I've never had to face it but I think there were some changes around the time that digital came in (I think to get the lens info into exif data but I might be way off) that did cause issues with 3rd party lenses so some of the film era Sigma lenses don't like digital mounts.

I thought it would work as well, it did occasionally and other times it would just lock up my Canon 400D and I would have to switch off the camera and remove the battery to get it to start up again. I can't remember the error I used to get displayed as this was almost 2 years ago. I just got fed up and saved up to buy the latest version as it is a good lens for the price.

Some older Sigma lenses need sending in to be rechipped to work on EOS Digital bodies

Thanks for the responses so far people.

Out of interest, can anyone tell what bayonet mount it is from the picture.

Is it EF? The cap says Canon AF.

Is there even a difference?

It will be EF mount but as said it would need chipping to work with Canon DSLR's, the bad point is that sigma can no longer re chip these older lenses hence they are only of use to those still using EOS film SLR's.
It's hard enough selling a chipped sigma lens, let alone a non chipped version.

You could have a chance of returning it if:

you where told it would fit your sony
you where told it would work with a DSLR
But not if it was sold as is, with no returns.

Thanks

I've opened a dispute.

Despite me being uber stupid and not seeing it wasn't Sony fit, there are other discrepancies and, hopefully, I'll get my money back to spend on one which will fit.
