Listening to Beethoven's 9th in the Flashmob thread, it occurred to me that there are certain songs/music that are inextricably linked with films

For example, I can't listen to the aforementioned Beethoven symphony with instantly thinking of A Clockwork Orange and Stuck in the Middle With You (Steeler's Wheel) will always be synonymous with Reservoir dogs.

Any others?

Edit: Just realised those are both quite violent associations!

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, always linked to BBC formula one coverage and of course "the ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner is linked in my mind with Apocalypse Now.

Tubular Bells with The Exocism.

'The Blue Danube', I can never hear that without thinking of the initial space sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and 'Also sprach Zarathustra' from the films opening.

On the same theme of 'A Clockwork Orange', the finale of the 'William Tell Overture' always makes me think of the sped up sex scene (actually a single unbroken 28 minute take) after Alex picks up the two girls in the record shop.

The film A Clockwork Orange may be regarded as violent, but if anything compared to the book Kubrick toned it down (probably because I don't think it would have been able to be released anywhere if he had done it exactly like the book!)

The film was actually withdrawn for 27 years.

The film was actually withdrawn for 27 years.

But not on account of the violence: it was released in the UK for several weeks, but apart from Kubrick being unhappy about the media sensationalising the films supposed connection with similar crimes depicted, he also received several letters threatening himself and his family over the films content, and being already quite a paranoid person he personally requested that Warner Brothers withdraw the film from distribution in the UK, and they obliged. He actually sued a cinema club who imported a print of the film in the early 90's to prevent them from showing it, and it was only after his death that it was released again in any form in Britain.

See this BBC documentary about the BBFC from about 34 minutes in,
. The documentary as a whole is quite interesting (certain bits definitely leave nothing to the imagination so to say so most certainly NSFW - sorry I can't get it to not embed the video in the post)

I didn't actually know that, I thought it was withdrawn because of the violence.

I've just edited my post above, take a look at the linked documentary from about 34 minutes in.

I keep associating Frosty The Snowman with Goodfellas, but for the wrong scene.
Layla's piano section is brilliantly placed in the movie.

Something to do with cars, but the name escapes me right now.

Donnie Darko and Gary Jules - Mad World

Full Metal Jacket and the Mickey Mouse song (NSFW)

Only slightly related to the subject:

Whenever I hear a police siren, I hear the music from Police Squad/Naked Gun in my head.

Steve.

Dvoraks New World Symphony.... and Hovis :D

That bloody advert is the worst! It means I can never enjoy the Largo now without hearing Uncle Mort's irritating Yorkshire vowels! Just as I can't get to Act II of Die Walkure without hearing helicopter blades!

Then again whenever I hear Rock Around the Clock I feel an overwhelming urge to slash cinema seats!!

Men of Harlech and Zulu. Other than that, can't really think of anything. I'm not very interested in music and don't watch many films.
