Does anyone know where I can find either an abandoned building thats really decayed and delapidated (sp) near(ish) to portsmouth / southampton for a big shoot I am putting together?

I would love some form of old disused warehouse or plant facility (something very industrial)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's stating the obvious but be very carefull, old building can be dangerous, floors can be rotten, theres often old discarded needles about, and thats without the druggies or nutters who might be lurking in the places. Don't go alone, and make sure somebody responsible knows exactly where you are and what to do if you don't come back.

As previosly said use google satelite view find an industrial area and have a search, they are easier to spot than you think. Once located on the comp go out and recce the place. I've found some cracking places in just this way.

I shall do so this evening :) Cheers

Top tips guys, many thanks

Just out of intered what do you mean by big shoot? It kind of depends on what you plan on doing as to what places you can use. There is a few places around but most are to risky for most kinds of shoots.
Edit to say, if you find somewhere be good to hear where.

Have a search for the area on 28dayslater.co.uk, i know a few guys were able to get permission to go inside some of the buildings on Portsdown hill

would the council be able to advise...they get the rates...or dont!!

If your doing this as a proper commercial shoot health and safety issues are going to make it difficult. You need to make a proper risk assesment, and make sure your insurance is going to cover you.

Wandering into abandoned buildings is difficult, dangerous and a civil offence. It becomes a criminal offence if you damage the building to gain entry.

If you are doing it commercially, you don't want to be wandering round with tons of kit, models, or whatever you a re shooting, as you will have to have your wits about you for security, property owners, etc.

Some places are available to rent for film / photo shoots if you contact the owners - I seem to recall there's at least one website that lists sites that do this. Alternatively, go and have a drive round and if you see anywhere, ring up whoever is trying to let / sell the place and see if they would contact the owner and ask if they'd agree to letting you in.

Alternatively, if that's not an option, do a search on 28dayslater.co.uk or derelictplaces for locations. Just don't join up and ask for locations and how to access them, you will be met with a torrent of abuse and have the thread locked / deleted.

I don't know any sites myself down there, as I tend to explore places in the north, but I hope this helps.

recce it with a mate then go with model ect but think speedlights and subtle not a profoto rig and an army of MUAs

also make sure you have at least one substantial assistant

and leave if you get told to

thanks guys, I have actually found a perfect location and I am in process of finding out who owns the land to contact them to ask for permission.

Beleive me, I would never put myself or others in danger :)
