Hi, need some help if possible.

Just got my 400D (last week) and the standard 18-55mm lens, which isn't the best.

This Saturday im going to Sheffield arena to watch the supercross and take pics, the past few years using my digi cam i got some very poor pictures.

I know its going to be hard taking photo's indoors, especially Arenas due to the poor lighting and fast moving bikes.

Would you reccomend using the flash on the camera? Shutter speed around 1/250th, ISO around 800?

I'll be sure to post up a few pics on Sunday.

i think with the flash you are limited to 1/200th which may be a bit slow for the fast moving bike, last time i shot these indoors at the belfast oddysey i was around ISO400 1/800th & F2.8.

I think the main problem you may have it the lack of reach with the 18-55mm lens

As said above, i think your going to struggle with that lens, even on a crop camera it wont really be long enough, would you be able to borrow any equipment off someone or hire?

My cousin is racing at sheffield on saturday night. (no.75 Lewis Darby) I wanted to take my camera to the 02 arena when he raced there earlier this year. My uncle made a few enquiries and was told I wouldnt be allowed to take it in? Anyone know how true this is?? 18-55mm will be far too short
Neil

I woudldn't bother with flash unless you were on the side of the track is it won't reach that far even at ISO800. You might find that selecting the flash will cause all sorts of metering problems as well.

You seem quite local to me so if you can get to Scunthorpe I can lend you a sigma 400mm apo for the night nikon fit
