I am currently listening to the BBC Asian Network because I like Indian vocal music.

Despite this I have no Asian music in my collection. Can someone recommend a good cd by a leading Aisian artist or maybe a collection of artists on one cd.

Vocal or instrumental? Classical or modern? I've got A LOT of stuff my wife and I can recommend.

Never knew you were married bud?

Cool, 3 years for me in November :)

Vocal, not too sure what genre being Asian, I like male or female or both together I guess it must be classical balady stuff, don't like it too fast.

KayJay I would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction I honestly love the music and have loved it for years but want to be sure of what I am buying.

A good instrumental would be nice, but prefer vocals with traditional backing instruments.

Cheers

Mal.

I'll get back to you with a list of stuff. My wife is more into the classical stuff and I'm into the instrumental stuff like Anoushka Shankar and her father Ravi Shankar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was amazing (Pakistani) but more vocal which you'll like. Give me a couple of hours.

That would be great, really appreciate it.

In return I promise not to mention your **** again :D

Nitin's a bloke.

You can find Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on YouTube, too.

Sukshinder Shinda!

Cheers Gandhi, I guess he must be an Indian pop star singing more of a commercial style of music ?. It is hard to describe the style of music I am looking for.

I bought a 3cd Indian "chill out" collection from HMV yesterday, disappointingly they are mostly instrumental but two vocal tracks really stand out and they are

Subeen Chattergee & Karma -U&I

Shreya Ghoshal -Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai

This is the style of vocals I am looking for

Yep she is good, got it on repeat at the moment:thumbs:

What I can't figure out is despite the sizeable Indian community in the North East, I toured Newcastle yesterday looking for Indian music and there was nothing, only 6 cds' to choose from in HMV:shrug:
I would love someone behind the counter to say" Ahh this is what you are after, have a listen to this" then buy it :D

For that, you'd need a proper record shop.

Oh god, an old person has taken over my typing fingers again.:lol:

To be fair, I wouldn't expect HMV or many Asian yoof to be of any help.

I've only visited once, but Ultima Thule of Leicester may be worth a call. He's got a wide knowledge of the non-mainstream and zeroed in on a couple of albums for me with only scant information.

There was lots of Asian music for sale in Poland, perhaps cos it was cheap?

(I was near West Woodburn at the weekend!)

I've got a lot of stuff here for you , can you pm me your email address? I'll get a list of names up soon for anyone else interested.

All out of copyright, of course ;)
