So I have my Sigma 150mm macro lens now. It's great, but I keep seeing these insanely magnified photos of insects. What would be my best method of getting increased magnification?

I have a 72 to 52mm reverser too, I tried the 50mm f1.8 on my macro lens but found the DOF way too restricting and the subject had to practically had to be touching the rear element of the 50mm. Should I try my 18-55mm? Or should I get something like the raynox 250? Ideally I'd like something that offers a good working distance rather than something so insanely close I'm likely to scare things off!

For any specific magnification (at a common aperture value) then the DoF is going to be the same. It doesn't matter how you achieve that magnification (tubes, diopter, reversed lens, different focal length, sensor size) you're still going to end up with the same DoF.

With that out of the way, you can base your decision on other factors.

The way round the narrow DOW problem is to use focus stacking - IE Take a series of shots (using tripod & macro rails), each one focusses slightly further away than the last.
The set of shots can then be combined in PP to produce a single image with much greater DOF.

The magic lantern firmware for some canon cameras will automate the focus stacking shots for you aswell.
