Hi all

Just wondering how many of my fellow TPers who are using PhotoLab are also users of Pure raw

I have always thought that PureRaw is a kind of dumbed down version of PL........ simplified with a more automated process from raw to output.

So, if you do use both how are you finding it and if you originally relied on PL do you now do most on PureRaw ?

TIA:)

Do you have PL Elite with DeepPrime?

Yes, sorry I should have said I have had PhotoLab Elite since version 4 in 2016 when I switched to mFT Olympus.

I have only ever had DXO elite am on version 8 now as you say I think elite is the upgraded version of pure Raw , always went for elite to get the extra control

I'm surprised that you think you need anything but DeepPrime.

I started off with PR4 then bought PL9
Then I had a senior moment and up graded to PR5 not realising that DeepPrime is included in PL9 :exit:

Now, if only DXO did a version of Photoshop I'd be a happy bunny ;)
To be fair to you, I don't find it particularly clear what some of their products are and what they include either.

There have a few comments over time that certain functionality between PR and PL are not in "lock step" and as such wondered if there was or were any advantage for a PL user to adding PR to their range of post processing programs?

Based on the replies perhaps(?) no real benefit

I’ve never felt the need for more than PL5 Elite’s DeepPrime, which works very well. I imagine later versions of PL Elite may well be even better.

Ooooer......... How do you get on with PR5? I've got a trial at the moment and may buy it before the black friday deal finishes. Ooops.....I think that's today......

I don't use it that much as I denoise in PL9.
When I have used it, it works really well.
I'll stick my neck out and say DXO has the best Noise Reduction
As I understand it the denoising in PL9 is the same as in PR 5. So in theory they should give identical results. I wonder if in practice they do?

Anyway I paid out for PR5 last night although some trials I did prior to doing so didn't show much difference. For me the main benefit will be that it is quicker than LR denoise and it works in the background so it won't lock up Lightroom like LR DN does. I guess I should get a new PC but this looks like a stopgap measure.

So you don't need PL & PR. :)

Yes, agreed. But Deep prime is now on v3 (or vXD2S....) so may be more advanced than the original version.

I see the DXO website is down this morning but there mention of a big announcement soon.........
Ooooh!

There is no immediately obvious chatter on the DxO community forum......but I surmise that would not be productive to speculate there.

So a case of watch this space

Most of these "big announcements" turn out to be damp squibs, though, don't they? Here's hoping a new purchaser of PureRAW (like me) will eligible for an update if it is something worthwhile.

Just the usual DXO announcement about more of the same for extra money!

It is the French way to tantalise & draw attention ~ n'est pa

PS though as PR, PL, VP & FP all recently had their new versions released I wonder what they could be announcing (soon?) that requires a holding page stopping access to new customers buying anything

Well for me it's showing 20% off any two or more products plus a period of premium support for free - over the xmas period.

Yes, I just noticed that the shop DxO page is still accessible.

PS I don't recall seeing Premium Support being sold as a service in the past, so to me that is something new!

When version 5 of DXO was released I watched a few videos from those that seem to no everything on YouTube and it seemed upgrading from 4 to 5 was not really worth the money so I still sit with version 4, if they do bring out the next upgrade in the near future then yes it would probably be worth a good look. Russ.

Doh! much as I might annoy myself......it might be my age :(
I do it all the time, but I know it's not my age, because I've always done it :-(

I believe it's because I have far more important things to remember :-)

I see Premium Support is "worth" £79.99............
In my limited experience 'normal' support is virtually non-existent, so 'premium' doesn't have to reach too high!

Ah! that old saw:lol:

What version of PL are people using? I bought version 7 on their Black Friday deal a couple of years ago and see I'll lose my upgrade discount after this year but looking at versions 8 and 9 there's nothing I'm seeing that makes me want to upgrade and a noticeable number of comments about performance issues with v9.

I’m using version 8 haven’t upgraded to 9 as said some people are having issues with the AI components in 9 and am not convinced it would run that well on my laptop as people with newer machines are getting problems

I'm still on 5 and see no reason to update - DXO can be another unnecessary money-pit.

FWIW

I went for v9 primarily because I like the AI model based masking selection process, and I am working my way through using that to hopefully good effect :)

v9 like in many ways v8 does need a PC with some ooomph in the GPU area....as do all software with AI based functions.

I use:-

W10 (i got the ESU from MS to extend updates until Oct 2026 but will update to W11 sometime next year)
i5 13th Gen CPU
32GB RAM
RTX 3060 12GB VRAM GPU
Mix of M2.SSD and HDDs

This broadly falls just above the min recommended spec for PL9
